Re: [SurroundSound] Re: off-topic- oppo bdp93 youtube?

Ok ok I dig all of you :)
Of course i wasnt planning on upgrading the firmware for that, I was hoping it was something easilly configurable...
Anyway I used the YT option once or twice and remembered it was extra crappy. I usually see the clips on my comp, but had an urge to see the brian eno documentary on full screen (its rather long and only 3 letters to type in :)). Oh well, I can live without it, and now at least I know its not a specific problem in my oppo (which I simply adore, I dont think I was ever so happy from a single electric appliance like that :))

{allcanada} CANADIAN OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALLIST SCOTT DIES AT AGE 84

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

She was Canada's Sweetheart.

Barbara Ann Scott, the only Canadian to win the Olympic women's figure skating gold medal, died Sunday at the age of 84.

The cause of death is not known, but an official from Skate Canada confirmed Scott's passing to the Canadian Press.

The Barbara Ann Scott Doll, made after her 1948 Winter Games triumph at St. Moritz, Switzerland, remains a prized possession of admirers and collectors alike. She was honorary chair of the 2006 world championships in Calgary and her autograph was the most coveted by fans of the sport during her visit.

Her married name was Mrs. Thomas Van Dyke King, but most simply called her Barbara Ann.

She was a role model for young Canadian women in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She won the admiration of Canadians with her beauty and grace, on and off the ice, and she dazzled the world.

Scott won the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada's top athlete in 1945, 1947 and 1948. She was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1955 and the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1991. She became an officer of the Order of Canada in 1991, was inducted into the International Women's Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 and was named to Canada's Walk of Fame in 1998.

In 2009, she carried the Olympic torch into the House of Commons on its journey to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Games.

Scott was born in Ottawa in 1928 and began skating at age seven at the Minto Club.

She was only 12 when she won the national junior championship. She became, at age 13 in 1942, the first woman to land a double Lutz in competition. Coached by Otto Gold and by Sheldon Galbraith, she was national senior champion by the age of 15 and won the title three more times. She also was winning North American championships, and by the time she was 17 she was posing for renowned photographer Yousuf Karsh.

Ottawa friends raised enough money to send Scott, her mother and a coach to the 1947 European championships in Davos, Switzerland, and the world championships in Stockholm. She won both titles.

Upon her return to Ottawa, children were let out of school and were among 70,000 admirers who lined the streets as she stood waving from a convertible as a band played Let Me Call You Sweetheart. She was given the key to the city and a new yellow convertible but returned it after Avery Brundage, president-elect of the International Olympic Committee, said she'd lose her Olympic eligibility by accepting the gift.

She won the European title again in 1948 in Prague. The rules were then changed to allow only Europeans to enter.

It was in St. Moritz, Switzerland, at the 1948 Olympics on Jan. 31, where she posted her greatest win -- in difficult circumstances. The ice at the outdoor venue was chewed up by hockey players and the temperature just above freezing when rink attendants removed the hockey boards and decided to resurface the ice. A slushy mess greeted the figure skaters after the sun rose.

Scott revised her four-minute program because of the poor ice. She did one double loop instead of three at the beginning and ended with three double Salchows instead of the double loops original choreographed. Her bright blue eyes glittering, she emerged victorious.

"When you have to skate outside in the elements, you tend not to worry about the small stuff," she said at the time.

Two forwards from the Ottawa RCAF Flyers team, who had won the hockey gold medals, hoisted her on their shoulders and the photo was distributed around the world.

"Beauteous Barbara Ann Scott, Canada's sparkling ballerina on the ice, won the women's figure skating championships before 7,000 dazzled admirers who hailed her performance as superior to Sonja Henie's best as an amateur," the New York Daily News reported.

She went on to Davos to win another world championship. She was 19 and she'd won the European, world and Olympic titles in a six-week period. She returned home a hero, and she finally got that convertible. The personalized licence plate read 48-VI, signifying her triumph at the 1948 sixth Winter Olympics.

Prime Minister Mackenzie King lauded her success as a factor in helping her fellow Canadians persevere through the era's post-war gloom. Her face graced the cover of Time magazine, and the Reliable Toy Company created a doll in her image.

She left the competitive scene and skated in ice shows for the next five years, succeeding Henie as the feature performer in the Hollywood Ice Revue. Her contract stipulated that a percentage of all her earnings go to aid crippled children.

She grew tired of living out of a suitcase and gave it all up at age 25 and in 1955 married King, who was the publicity agent for her touring show. They settled in Chicago.

Scott turned her attention to raising show horses and became one of the top-rated equestriennes in the United States.

She appeared in television commercials, authored two books, ran a beauty salon for a time, was a director of a summer theatre. She remained involved in figure skating as a judge at competitions and often returned to Canada as an honoured guest at sport and charity events. She was one of the first Canadians to carry the Olympic torch on its way to Calgary for the 1988 Winter Games.

An Ottawa arena is named after her.

Her last nationals were in Calgary in 1948, which is why she always looked forward to returning to that city.

{allcanada} OHL: 19-YEAR-OLD MORRISON SHINES AS FRONTENACS BEAT ICEDOGS

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

Mike Morrison made quite the impression on his competition on Sunday afternoon.

The 19-year-old goaltender turned away 42 shots as the Kingston Frontenacs held on to defeat the visiting Niagara IceDogs 5-4 in Ontario Hockey League action.

"Morrison was unbelievable and they were blocking shots," said IceDogs forward Ryan Strome. "We definitely had our chances."

Morrison was his busiest during the second period when he faced 19 shots, however it was his club's ability to clear the front of his net that led to a victory.

"It was good that the guys were able to calm down and keep the shots to the outside," said Morrison. "That's what I'm looking for."

Ryan Kujawinski scored two goals for the Frontenacs (3-0-0) while Cody Alcock, Darcy Greenaway and Spencer Watson each had a goal and an assist.

Michael Moffat chipped in with three assists for Kingston.

Strome led the IceDogs (3-1-0) offensively with two goals and Dougie Hamilton had a goal and an assist.

Brett Ritchie picked up two assists while Steven Shipley scored a single goal to round out Niagara's offence.

Christopher Festarini made 29 saves in defeat.

Kingston went 1-for-2 on the power play while Niagara failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Guelph 4, London 1; Windsor 5, Sudbury 2 and Oshawa 7, Brampton 4.

At Kingston, Ont., Kujawinski opened the scoring for the Frontenacs 3:34 into the first period.

Greenaway gave Kingston a 2-0 lead at 16:11, despite being outshot 15 to 8 in the opening period.

Alcock made it 3-0 early in the second period before Shipley finally put Niagara on the board at 13:14.

Strome had a chance to make it a one-goal game when he was sprung in on a breakway on Morrison, but Morrison won the one-on-one battle.

"Anytime you stop a breakaway it's a big save and that really got the guys going on the bench," said Morrison. "I think that was the change we needed. They got to us a little bit in the middle of the period but that was definitely a big save."

Kujawinksi's second goal of the day came on ther power play at 17:52. It looked like the Frontenacs would head into the second intermission up three goals, however Strome scored with just five seconds remaining in the period to make it 4-2 Kingston after 40 minutes of play.

Strome made it a one-goal game when he scored his second at 3:09 of the third period, but Watson responded for the Frontenacs only 30 seconds later.

"When they scored the goal 30 seconds after we made it 4-3 that definitely took the wind out of our sails," said Strome.

Hamilton added one more goal for the IceDogs at 10:09.

---

Storm 4 Knights 1

At London, Ont., Garret Sparks turned away 44-of-45 shots and Scott Kosmachuk scored twice as Guelph (2-2-0) downed the Knights (2-2-0).

---

Spitfires 5 Wolves 2

At Windsor, Ont., Brady Vail scored two goals and added two assists and Jaroslav Pavelka made 26 saves as the Spitfires (3-1-1) defeated Sudbury (2-3-0).

---

Generals 7 Battalion 4

At Oshawa, Ont., Tyler Biggs, Boone Jenner and Lucas Lessio each scored twice as the Generals (4-1-0) beat Brampton (1-2-1).

{allcanada} Bieber hits that might outlive 'Biebermania'

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

http://www.gannett-cdn.com/media/USATODAY/USATODAY/2012/09/30/xxx-a3i7079-4_3_r560.jpg?f061b7ce9937c38b702e6f308816ac2a14e2a4ec

September 30. 2012 - As Justin Bieber launches his latest tour, here's a look back at the teen sensation's greatest hits. And to be clear, by "greatest" hits, we do not mean his biggest hits (although his highest-charting single is the top song here as well, as pure coincidence would have it). This list is the best of Bieber's hits -- the singles most likely to outlive the mass hysteria of Biebermania, whether you've ever considered yourself a Belieber or not. And one would have to go back pretty far to find a teen sensation with 10 better hits (although his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, has definitely had her share of great pop singles).

1. Boyfriend (2012)

This is state-of-the-art top 40 pop, grabbing the listener by the ear buds right out of the box with that dive-bombing keyboard hook topping a minimal electronic-hand-clap beat. You'd swear the Neptunes (or possibly Timbaland) had produced it by the time the teen sensation grabs the mike and starts to rap without embarrassing himself (no small accomplishment). The rap is nothing tricky or provocative, but it definitely suits the singer and the song. And "So say hello to falsetto in 3-2-(pause)" is an excellent lead-in to the singing -- falsetto as promised on the soulful verses, lower on the chorus hook and then back to falsetto for the bridge, accompanied by hip-hop beats, an acoustic guitar and that dive-bombing keyboard hook. Produced by Mason Levy and Mike Posner, the single premiered -- and peaked -- at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100, Bieber's highest-charting entry yet, and went on to be his second multiplatinum single (the first one being Baby).

2. As Long as You Love Me (2012)

If Boyfriend was an edgier-than-we-had-any-reason-to-expect first taste of Bieber's latest effort, the second single, As Long as You Love Me, was edgier still, embracing dubstep and other noisy electronic touches, with a chorus hook that starts by removing the beat and allowing the keyboards to swell for an effect that sounds like Bieber free falling in deep space. There's plenty of digital processing to go around on Bieber's vocal, but he still sounds human. Also, Big Sean's rap includes the pretty classic line,"The grass ain't always greener on the other side/It's green where you water it." Produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and Andre Lindal, the single peaked at No. 6 on Billboard's Hot 100 and went platinum. There's also a really cool video with Michael Madsen of Reservoir Dogs as an overprotective dad.

3. U Smile (2010)

Boasting a far more innocuous -- some would argue baby-faced -- appeal than the singles from this year's Believe, U Smile is a sweet, soulful ballad that wouldn't have sounded out of place on one of Michael Jackson's early albums. Even Bieber himself took to Twitter to proclaim the song a "throwback to the great records I listened to growing up." That old-school flavor may be why it stalled at No. 27 on the Hot 100 while breaking Bieber's winning streak of every single going platinum in the States, although you'd think the lyrics ("If you need me, I'll come running from a thousand miles away," etc.) would have been enough to make the young girls in the fan club swoon enough to buy a single.

4. Baby (2010)

In a lot of ways, this single is as old-school as U Smile. In fact, the melody is practically a throwback to the doo-wop era. But that didn't stop it from becoming Bieber's first and only triple-platinum hit or hitting No. 5 on Billboard's Hot 100. Unlike U Smile, though, this one had serious hip-hop curb appeal, including a guest rap from Ludacris, who sounds like he's channeling LL Cool J in I Need Love mode when he calmly raps, "When I was 13, I had my first love/There was nobody that compared to my baby and nobody came between us or could ever come above/She had me goin'crazy/Oh, I was starstruck/She woke me up daily/Don't need no Starbucks."

5. Somebody to Love (2010)

The edgiest of Bieber's early singles, Somebody to Love brought throbbing Eurodisco rhythms to the Bieber party. It sounds as if it were meant to be a club hit. And, in fact, that may have been what Heather Bright and the Stereotypes were originally thinking when they demoed the song in the hope of placing it on Usher's Raymond v. Raymond album. Usher does turn up on backing vocals here and even cut a featured vocal for the remix. The keyboard hook is undeniable, and Bieber really sells the lyrics, starting with, "For you, I'd write a symphony/I'd tell the violin it's time to sink or swim." Produced by the Stereotypes, the single peaked at No. 15 and went platinum.

6. Die in Your Arms (2012)

A retro-minded highlight of Believe, this single sets the tone as finger-popping doo-wop, but the beat is old-school hip-hop. It's also an excellent vocal showcase for an all-too-often underrated talent on the mike, especially the way he navigates the chorus hook. With Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins, Dennis "Aganee" Jerkins and Travis Sayles, this ballad ups the Michael Jackson quotient by sampling We've Got a Good Thing Going On, a track from one of Jackson's very early solo efforts, Ben. Released as a promotional single, this one peaked at No. 17.

7. All Around the World (2012)

It's the return of Ludacris! And even he seems pretty pleased to have Bieber back, beginning his guest rap with, "Once again, the dynamic duo's back at it, JB, Luda!" Fair enough. Other than that, this dance track sounds exactly like the Britney Spears song Till the World Ends, from the throbbing Eurodisco beat to the stuttering vocal hook. But therein lies its charms. A promotional-only single, it peaked at No. 22.

8. Never Let You Go (2010)

This aching pop ballad finds young Bieber fretting that kisses may be outlawed, begging "Baby, give me one last hug." But rather than dwell on Orwellian visions of Big Brother raining on Bieber's parade, he finds his happy place in her eyes with a chorus of "It's like an angel came by and took me to heaven/Like you took me to heaven, girl/Cause when I stare in your eyes, it couldn't be better." Another promotional-only single, this one peaked at No. 21.

9. One Less Lonely Girl (2009)

The oldest song that made our list, this teen-pop ballad was the second Bieber single ever, going platinum and hitting No. 16. It's the perfect single for the tweens that constituted Bieber's target demographic at the time, a heartfelt pledge that "If you let me inside of your world, there'll be one less lonely girl." Meanwhile, the strum of acoustic guitar against a hip-hop beat laid the blueprint for several Bieber hits to come, including Boyfriend.

10. Favorite Girl (2009)

An early promotional single, it peaked at No. 26 on Billboard's Hot 100. A hip-hop-flavored teen-pop song with speaker-thumping bass, it features young Bieber delivering one more pledge of starry-eyed devotion to one more favorite girl. Calling her "my prize possession" may not earn him any bonus points with the favorite girl's parents, but most of the lyrics are sweeter than that, including "You can be yourself with me/I'll take you as you are."

{allcanada} YANKEES CLOSER TO PLAYOFFS WITH COMEBACK WIN OVER BLUE JAYS

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays manager John Farrell wanted starter Henderson Alvarez to finish the season on a strong note, so he pulled him after six effective innings Sunday.

The move gave Alvarez his team-leading 16th quality start of the year but Toronto's bullpen couldn't get him the win as New York rallied for a 9-6 victory at Rogers Centre on Sunday.

With the win, the Yankees' magic number for locking up a playoff spot was trimmed to one. New York (92-67) remained tied with Baltimore atop the American League East after the Orioles beat Boston 6-3.

Toronto (70-89) has been out of the playoff picture for a while and is looking ahead to the 2013 campaign. Alvarez, a regular starter this year in a rotation that has been hamstrung with injuries, looked solid over the last few weeks after a mid-season swoon.

"We've seen a good start, some struggles in the middle and a finish on a positive trend," Farrell said. "He goes into the off-season I would think with a lot of confidence about the way he's pitched late in the season."

Alvarez could be a key cog in the rotation down the road. The right-hander relies primarily on his fastball but his change-up has come around and he hopes to use his slider more next year.

Alvarez allowed seven hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks. The 22-year-old Venezuelan finished his first full season as a starter with a 9-14 record and 4.85 earned-run average.

"The overall start to finish -- going through a full major-league season -- is a success in its own right," Farrell said. "And the overall growth based on the challenges he faced."

The Blue Jays staked Alvarez to a four-run lead and he left after giving up one run in the sixth. New York pulled even in the seventh, scored twice in the eighth and added two insurance runs in the ninth.

Reliever Boone Logan (7-2) got two outs for the win as New York (92-67) used a 15-hit attack to salvage a split of the four-game series. Robinson Cano and Derek Jeter had three hits apiece as the Yankees completed their 43rd come-from-behind win of the season.

"With an experienced group you just let them have their at-bats and tell them keep putting up good at-bats and that's what they did," said New York manager Joe Girardi. "It was an outstanding job on their part."

Eduardo Nunez knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly and Jeter followed with an RBI single. In the ninth, reliever Jason Frasor loaded the bases and Curtis Granderson took advantage with a two-run single.

The Blue Jays had the potential tying run at the plate but could only get one run across as Rafael Soriano settled down and got Adam Lind on a grounder to end the game.

Canadian Brett Lawrie hit a two-run homer for the Blue Jays, who had 10 hits on the day.

The Yankees started their comeback in the sixth by scratching out a run. Cano doubled, moved to third on a Nick Swisher single and scored on a wild pitch.

Alvarez struck out Canadian Russell Martin to get out of the jam. Brett Cecil relieved Alvarez in the seventh and was pulled after giving up a single to Nunez.

Blue Jays reliever Steve Delabar didn't fare much better.

He gave up a ground-rule double to Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki knocked in Nunez with a sacrifice fly. After a walk to Alex Rodriguez, Cano cashed in Jeter with a double to make it a one-run game.

Aaron Loup relieved Delabar and threw a wild pitch that brought home Rodriguez with the tying run. The Blue Jays escaped further damage when Swisher lined out to Yunel Escobar at short, who flipped the ball to Lawrie to double off Cano at third base.

Toronto's bullpen continued its struggles in the eighth as reliever Darren Oliver (3-4) walked Granderson and gave up a single to Raul Ibanez.

Brandon Lyon came on and Martin, from Chelsea, Que., dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners ahead. Nunez then stroked a fly ball to centre that brought home Granderson.

The Blue Jays started the game strong, getting to Yankees starter Phil Hughes in the opening inning. Rajai Davis singled, moved to second on a walk to Edwin Encarnacion and scored on an Escobar double.

Encarnacion scored the game's second run on a sacrifice fly by Lind.

Eric Chavez put the Yankees on the board in the third when he took the first pitch from Alvarez over the wall for his 16th homer of the season. New York later put runners on the corners after Lawrie threw wildly to first after snagging a hot shot from Cano.

Lawrie, from Langley, B.C., atoned for the error by tracking down Swisher's slow grounder and throwing him out to preserve the one-run lead.

Ichiro made a highlight-reel catch in the bottom half of the frame. Encarnacion hit a ball to the right-field corner but the Japanese star tracked it down on the fly before crashing into the padding underneath the seats.

Lawrie hit his 11th homer of the season to deep left-centre field in Toronto's three-run fifth. Hughes gave up three straight two-out hits before being pulled, including Moises Sierra's RBI single that scored Escobar.

Hughes allowed five earned runs, eight hits, two walks and had four strikeouts.

Announced attendance was 31,418 on fan appreciation day.

Notes: Encarnacion left the game in the seventh. He was pulled as a precaution due to a tight muscle in the left shoulder area. ... The game took three hours 25 minutes to play. ...The Rogers Centre roof was closed. ... The Blue Jays have lost 10 of their last 14 games while the Yankees have won 11 of 15. ...The Blue Jays will close out the regular season with a three-game series against the visiting Minnesota Twins. Aaron Laffey (4-6) is the scheduled starter for Monday's opener. The Twins will counter with Esmerling Vasquez (0-2). The Yankees will finish off the season with a three-game home series against Boston.

{allcanada} ESKIMOS DEMOTE OC CRANDELL TO QB COACH, REED TO CALL PLAYS

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

EDMONTON -- Edmonton Eskimos head coach Kavis Reed is adding to his responsibilities.

The Eskimos announced Sunday that Reed will assume the offensive co-ordinator's duties from Marcus Crandell, who'll now be the CFL club's quarterbacks coach.

Reed will handle the play-calling duties when Edmonton hosts the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night.

"I'm going to be far more instrumental in game planning," said Reed in a statement. "We have the ability to do somethings a little bit differently that will allow us to have more explosive plays."

The coaching shuffle comes after Edmonton dropped a 39-15 decision to the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night.

Edmonton (5-8) has lost five straight games to fall to last in the West Division standings, four points behind the third-place Saskatchewan Roughriders (7-6).

The Eskimos entered weekend action ranked seventh in the eight-team CFL in scoring (21.5 points per game) and passing (252.5 yards) and last in total offence (315.2 yards).

Edmonton's offence took a major hit in December when GM Eric Tillman dealt veteran quarterback Ricky Ray to the Toronto Argonauts for veteran Steven Jyles, kicker Grant Shaw and a 2012 first-round draft pick.

Ray missed Toronto's 29-10 road win over Winnipeg on Saturday with a knee injury but has thrown for 3,371 yards for the Argos (7-6).

Jyles is Edmonton's passing leader with 1,756 yards but neither he nor veteran backup Kerry Joseph played against Calgary as both have leg injuries.

That left Matt Nichols to make the start and he finished 14-of-26 passing for 167 yards with a touchdown and an interception while also running for a TD.

{allcanada} YOUNG OILERS NUGENT-HOPKINS, EBERLE TAKE LOCKOUT IN STRIDE

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

OKLAHOMA CITY -- This certainly wasn't how centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins envisioned starting the 2012-'13 hockey season.

But with plenty of uncertainty surrounding the NHL lockout, the sophomore forward is doing what he can to make the best of a bad situation.

Nugent-Hopkins was one of many Oilers youngsters in attendance Sunday at the opening of training camp for the Oklahoma City Barons, Edmonton's American Hockey League affiliate.

"It's good with everything that's going on to still get a chance to play and stay in shape," Nugent-Hopkins said. "There are some things I want to work on.

"A big thing for me is I want to be a two-way centre. I take a lot of pride in my defence, and that's something I'm definitely going to be focused on."

Nugent-Hopkins was among the NHL's top rookies last season, registering 52 points (18 goals, 34 assists) in 62 games. The former No. 1 overall selection did so despite missing 20 games with a shoulder injury.

Nugent-Hopkins sees his opportunity in Oklahoma City as a blessing in disguise, just as he does last season's injury.

"That first year I wanted to learn as much as I possibly could," he said. "It was a great learning experience.

"There were some positives from the injury. Watching the game from upstairs, I was able to see it from a different perspective, and I believe it will help me moving forward."

Moving forward is also what right-winger Jordan Eberle is concentrating on right now. Eberle hasn't spent much time in Oklahoma City, arriving Friday night, and he says he can already tell the winning attitude the team and the city have.

Eberle had 76 points (34 goals, 42 assists) last season with Edmonton. Eberle has earned a reputation for being a scorer but doesn't want to be known as a one-dimensional player.

"I've always been known as an offensive guy," he said. "That's not bad or anything, but I want to be known as a complete player.

"I get a chance to work on some things here. I'm going to work on my defence and penalty kill. With the lockout, this is the next best option here in North America. They made it to the conference final last season, and we want to continue that success. The winning attitude is great and something we want to take back with us to Edmonton. I'm going to enjoy this experience."

While Eberle will work on overall improvement, his new teammates can't wait to see what he can produce offensively.

"He can score goals, no doubt about that," defenceman Colten Teubert said. "He's going to contribute a lot of points and be exciting to watch. And for somebody his size, he is very strong with the puck.

"With Nuge (Nugent-Hopkins), he's an unbelievable playmaker. He's going to do things here that are going to make the people here in Oklahoma City say, 'Wow.' He is that special of a talent."

Barons coach Todd Nelson wasted no time getting down to business Sunday. There was no feeling-out process, instead, it was right to work on systems and schemes.

Nelson knew before the start of camp that Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle would be in attendance but realized quickly Sunday he'll have something special for however long the NHL lockout continues.

"Those are some highly skilled guys," Nelson said. "They've been impact players in the NHL.

"Obviously when they get here what that's going to do is raise the level of play for the rest of the guys. Right now they're out here working hard and having fun. It was a real good first day."

The Barons will practise all week before playing two exhibition games against the Houston Aeros on Friday and Saturday.

{allcanada} NHL, LOCKED-OUT PLAYERS MEET FOR THIRD STRAIGHT DAY

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

NEW YORK -- The NHL and the players' association met for a third straight day Sunday, and again avoided the troublesome money issues that are fueling the ongoing lockout.

"We did not discuss core economic issues, as was the plan," NHLPA special counsel Steve Fehr said after meeting for five hours with the NHL. "We discussed health and safety, drug testing, including more discussion of drug testing, medical care etc. Also a number of things in the CBA legal area of player movements."

The drug policy was a key component of talks Friday when the sides got together for the first time since the NHL imposed the lockout on Sept. 16.

On Saturday, the sides focused on clarifications of definitions of what makes up hockey-related revenue -- a pot that exceeded $3 billion.

"It was a productive day. We made some progress in some areas," Fehr said Sunday. "I would say it's good that we were talking. It's true that we could've done this last week or a week before or a week before that, but it's a lot better than doing it three weeks from now."

Because of difficulty in finding common ground on how to split up that money, the league and union instead concentrated all weekend on secondary issues that will also be included in any new agreement.

"I hate to sound like a broken record, but we need some movement on the economic issues. We need some movement on the system issues," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "We need them to be scheduled as the subject of a meeting, and right now the union is not prepared to do that."

Negotiations on Sunday were conducted at the league office without NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. They met privately Friday and Saturday, away from the other group negotiations.

"I think that may demonstrate more than anything else the nature of the issues we're talking about," Daly said about the absences of Bettman and Donald Fehr. "We're really talking about kind of micro issues, issues we deal with on a day-to-day basis that don't necessarily rise to the commissioner's level or the executive director's level.

"So they will be at the table when we're talking about the issues that are really going to get this deal done or not."

There was a thought that talks might continue Monday, but that doesn't seem likely as the NHL wants to meet internally with its clubs before getting back together with the players' association.

"We covered a lot of things over the last three days," Daly said. "We both have a lot of homework projects to do and drafts we owe each other on certain things. We think (Monday) would be best used for that purpose.

"What we did today, and the last two days, I don't think any of that is going to get a deal done. But they are all necessary elements of the deal."

There is no timetable for talks to resume, but Tuesday is a possibility.

The entire preseason slate of games was cancelled by the NHL on Thursday, and regular-season games -- scheduled to begin Oct. 11 -- could soon be called off, too.

The NHL cancelled the entire 2004-05 season because of a lockout that eventually led to the collective bargaining agreement that expired this month.

By working on secondary agreements now, the sides are ahead of where they were back in 2005 when a deal was finally finished.

"All the stuff we've done the last three days were things we did after we had resolved the economic issues, and this one is not playing out that way," Daly said. "We'll have to see how it plays out."

{allcanada} Justin Bieber Throws Up Onstage, Keeps Rockin'

US iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store US iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store

As it turns out, milk doesn't always do a body good.

Justin Bieber had a bit of an accident when he kicked off his "Believe" tour in Glendale, Ariz., Saturday night after consuming the beverage before the show.

The 18-year-old pop star was in the midst of performing "Out of Town Girl" when he suddenly turned around, threw up on stage and ran off.

Yikes!

The Biebs returned quickly, however, telling the crowd "I'm sorry, I'm going to slow things down," according to USA Today, and played the ballad "Fall" on an acoustic guitar.

But that wasn't the end of Bieber's tummy troubles.

A little later in the gig, while performing "Beauty and a Beat," the superstar singer ran off stage again, stopping the show abruptly for a few minutes.

"It's hard for me, you know, not feeling great and throwing up in front of a bunch of people," Bieber said to a screaming crowd upon his return. "Will you love me even though I'm throwing up on stage? OK, I wanted to give you my best show ever, so do you mind if I finish it?"

And that he did, dedicating "One Less Lonely Girl" to his late fan Avalanna Routh, who passed away from cancer Wednesday.

"Great show. Getting better for tomorrow's show!!!! Love u," Bieber tweeted, along with an instagram pic of himself laying in bed. "And .... Milk was a bad choice! Lol. Goodnight Avalanna. Tonight was for u. I love u."

Jon M. Chu, creative director of Bieber's tour, told E! News exclusively that Bieber powered through show impressively despite his condition.

"The star of the show last night was Bieber, the ultimate professional," Chu said. "And he really impressed me with his honesty to his fans, without hesitation. This guy knows his audience more than anyone."

Chu said the night was very emotional, adding, "And when he told the audience he was not choosing a "one less lonely girl" tonight and instead singing it to Avalanna and sang it to an empty chair with a flower crown on it...The whole audience was bawling. Including me. I don't think I've ever felt that emotional at a concert before."

{allcanada} Jays' Oliver undecided about 2013 season

US iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store US iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store

TORONTO - Given the way he's pitched this year, coming back for a 20th big-league season in 2013 would seem like a no-brainer for Darren Oliver.

Far from it, actually.

The 41-year-old Toronto Blue Jays left-hander said Sunday he remains undecided about his future and won't really begin to consider it until he's back home for the winter, although he sounds like someone who may be ready to walk away from the game.

Though this campaign has been Oliver's best as a reliever numbers-wise -- he's 3-3 with a 1.78 earned-run average over 60 games, covering 55.2 innings, allowing just 41 hits and 14 walks with 52 strikeouts -- the main factor in his decision will be "my two kids and my wife."

"I would never play this game and be away from them and take that away from them," said Oliver. "Every kid needs a father at home. That's important to me. I think it should be important to a lot of people. Baseball's second. Family's first. I've always said that."

The Blue Jays hold a US$3 million club option for on him for 2013, certainly no pittance, but Oliver noted that the season is long and added, "it's hard to be away from your family for that long."

He's not feeling any pressure to stay home, he said, but, "my kids just want me home. They want their dad. If I was a kid, I'd be saying the same thing, too."

Oliver has two boys, 12 and 10, who are "at that crucial age, which way are they going to go?"

Manager John Farrell said while he'd love to have Oliver back, he's done no lobbying whatsoever, describing the decision to walk away as a personal one. The only advice he offers is that Oliver ensures all his desire to play is burned out.

According to Oliver his performance won't mark the tipping point - "Will that change my mind? No," he said - nor will a desire to leave the game with a better team finish than the one the Blue Jays end up with.

"That would've been nice, but I've kind of been spoiled over the past few years," said Oliver, whose streak of six straight trips to the post-season is coming to an end. "Like they say, every good thing always comes to an end. Teams are going to make the playoffs and teams aren't.

"I never took it for granted, the past years when we did make the playoffs. Everybody in this room, once they get a taste of it, they're going to know what's it like to be there and always want to grind to get back."

As for when a decision might come, Oliver is in no rush.

"You guys catch me in the off-season somewhere," he said with a grin. "See what happens when I'm in the Bahamas."

Anyone else encounter this problem? is it connected to the fact that the update is old, or something else in the configuration?

Re: [SurroundSound] Re: off-topic- oppo bdp93 youtube?

Have you actually seen that YouTube interface on the Oppo?  Really there's not a thing that is usable about it.  Seriously.  Use your computer.  You can't even search using that app on the Oppo.  Its a serious POS.  My advice pretend it doesn't exist and you will be much happier.

{allcanada} Bieber battles illness to complete 'Believe' debut

US iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store US iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Justin Bieber had a mission with his new Believe tour, which kicked off Saturday at 18,000-seat Jobing Arena in this Phoenix suburb. It was to show that the 18-year-old was ready to eclipse the tween YouTube phenomenon and prove he was an entertainer of merit and endurance.

He indeed showed he was a man at the sold-out venue, but it had nothing to do with his new array of urban-tinged tunes or a stage spectacle that melded the visual gee-whiz of Hollywood with the crowd-pleasing power of Broadway. And it had everything to do with throwing up. In an impressive embodiment of show-must-go-on bravura, Bieber succumbed to an upset stomach not once but twice during his 21-song set, leaving fans wide-eyed and concerned, only to then charge back on stage.

The first instance came an hour into the 105-minute concert, midway through the Guys and Dolls-inspired presentation of Out of Town Girl, off Believe. Bieber wheeled around suddenly and doubled over, then scurried off stage. The dozen male and female dancers continued their routine, but when a DJ took over without the singer, a buzz rippled through the crowd.

"I'm sorry, I'm going to slow things down," Bieber said when he reappeared to the usual barrage of ear-piercing screams. He took to a platform on a mobile crane and soared above the audience, performing Fall on acoustic guitar. In contrast to the thundering strum und drang of much of the show, this piece was a gem that recalled the performer's roots busking for coins as a kid in Stratford, Ontario.

Bieber then powered through his Karate Kid theme song, Never Say Never. But a few thumps into Beauty and a Beat, his duet with Nicki Minaj (who provided her rap via a taped performance on a central video screen), the lanky singer vanished again, this time resulting in a complete halt to the show for a few minutes.

When he finally returned, Bieber had the poise and innate show-business smarts to come clean with the audience. "It's hard for me, you know, not feeling great and throwing up in front of a bunch of people," he said to laughs. "Will you love me even though I'm throwing up on stage?" Shrill shrieks. "OK, I wanted to give you my best show ever, so do you mind if I finish it?"

Finish it he did, completing the interrupted electronic dance-music romp with a virtual Minaj; dedicating One Less Lonely Girl to Avalanna Routh, the 6-year-old fan who succumbed to a rare cancer on Sept. 26 ("If you're listening, I love you," he said, looking skyward); tearing through As Long As You Love Me, Baby and the gospel-vibed Believe; and finally wrapping the show with his new album's first single, Boyfriend, complete with a few adult-oriented — and Michael Jackson-inspired — crotch grabs.

The show was not perfect. A planned magic act was scotched due to Bieber's onstage illness, and a few songs seemed to lack a segue, instead simply ending in silence as fans waited for the next number. All that can certainly be fixed in the course of 70-plus shows planned for the USA and Europe in the coming months.

Not that effort didn't go into rehearsal: Bieber insisted on three full concert run-throughs in the 36 hours before the show, his only real downtime amounting to riding a Segway around the arena and playing uber-competitive ping-pong with his posse (he's got a wicked backhand and doesn't like to lose). Such dedication to onstage perfection likely is what caused him to pay the physical price in concert.

Nonetheless, Bieber was the decided standout of this Scooter Braun-orchestrated soiree. Braun, who discovered Bieber and continues to intricately manage his rising career, also is behind the evening's two warm-up acts, Australian surfer heartthrob Cody Simpson and Call Me Maybe siren Carly Rae Jepsen. Each contributed a quick six-song set, with beach boy Simpson faring much better with the overwhelmingly young female crowd.

Bieber makes no secret of admiring and indeed hoping to succeed the late King of Pop, and Jackson's influences appeared everywhere from the music that played before Bieber took the stage (mostly Off the Wall-era hits) to the enigmatic talisman that appeared onscreen as the show began (an intricately carved key etched with the letter "B," for Believe).

The Jackson cues continued in numbers such as the show's opener, All Around the World (Bieber flies in on enormous wings made of drum cymbals and guitars), and in She Don't Like the Lights (which featured a filmed opening sequence showing Bieber duking it out with paparazzi, not unlike Jackson's shootouts in the music video for Smooth Criminal).

Bieber told USA TODAY in the weeks before the tour that he and his crew were watching endless Jackson concert videos and asking themselves "What would Michael do?" One has to think, taking in this giant opus of a show, that Bieber and his director, Jon Chu, were specifically watching This Is It, the footage from rehearsals for Jackson's ill-fated tour. The way Chu, whose background is in feature films, artfully wove video segments into Bieber's show likely speaks to a coming trend in concert entertainment, where the live performer on stage is but one element in a multimedia show.

Fans like Mackenzie Froehle, 17, were pleased by Bieber 2.0. "We're looking for something more extravagant and intense," she said. "He's not a little kid anymore, and the concerts shouldn't feel like Disney."

Believe isn't Disney, just as Bieber is no longer crooning for his mom Pattie's video camera. But it's hard to say what was more impressive, the ambitious multimedia presentation or the gutsy multidimensional performer who powered through the evening where lesser stars might have pulled up lame. What's truly believable is that Bieber has a big future beyond his improbably successful past.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NHL and the Players' Association are meeting for the third straight day to try to resolve the lockout.

The sides met for about four hours Saturday, and they agreed to meet again Sunday. The agenda likely will include discussions on health and safety issues.

Core economic issues still weren't on the agenda Saturday when the opposing groups got together again at the NHL office.

Sunday's talks came three days after the league canceled the remaining preseason games. The regular season is scheduled to start Oct. 11.

If a deal isn't reached soon, regular-season games will be in danger of being lost. The NHL canceled the entire 2004-05 season because of a lockout that eventually led to the collective bargaining agreement that expired this month.
