{allcanada} RAPTORS BLOW FOURTH QUARTER LEAD, FALL TO PACERS IN OPENER

1-800-PetMeds Fetch/468x60.gif

TORONTO -- David West scored 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter Wednesday as the Indiana Pacers edged Toronto 90-88, spoiling what had been a thrilling Raptors' regular-season opener at Air Canada Centre.

Kyle Lowry scored 21 points, while Jonas Valanciunas had 12 points and 10 rebounds in his NBA debut for the new-look Raptors in a game that -- despite the loss -- had more of a positive vibe than Toronto sports fans have experienced in a long time.

Five Raptors scored in double figures as Andrea Bargnani added 16, Jose Calderon finished with 15, and DeMar DeRozan, who earlier in day agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth US$38 million, finished with 10.

Roy Hibbert and Paul George added 14 apiece for the Pacers.

The Raptors took a 71-63 lead into the fourth quarter of nailbiting see-saw battle that featured 15 lead changes to that point.

Calderon, leading the Raptors' second unit that was virtually Toronto's starting unit last season, came up big in the fourth quarter, draining a pair of three-pointers less than two minutes apart, bringing the sold-out crowd of 19,800 to its feet. His second with six minutes to play gave the Raptors a 10-point lead.

But some major defensive lapses left a wide-open West draining shot after shot in the final few minutes, with his basket with 1:20 left pulling the visitors to within 88-87.

After a George Hill free throw evened the score, Indiana was given possession of the ball after a video review and Hill drained the driving hook shot that sealed the Pacers' victory with 2.1 seconds left. Bargnani missed on a last-second shot.

Despite the fact Indiana was missing Danny Granger, who's out indefinitely with a knee injury, the Pacers were considered a stiff test for Toronto. Indiana has been picked by some basketball experts to finish second in the East this season behind the Miami Heat.

The Raptors played with three new starters in Valanciunas, Lowry and Landry Fields.

Valanciunas endeared himself to fans immediately. The 20-year-old Lithuanian looked completely unfazed by the fact he was matched up against an NBA all-star in Hibbert. He blocked a shot in the game's opening minute, grabbed an offensive rebound for a layup less than two minutes later, and scraped and clawed under the basket all night.

His rim-hanging dunk in the third quarter brought the crowd to its feet.

Lowry was exactly as advertised -- hustle and hard work, dripping sweat all game long, and grinning like a kid at the coaching staff when he drained a three-pointer.

The feeling in the darkened pre-game arena was electric with fans waving purple glow sticks as a gospel choir sang. Images of Raptors in action were flashed across the floor. The largest cheer went up for Calderon.

DeRozan took centre court on a big night for the 23-year-old swingman, thanking fans for their support.

"We're definitely going to work hard on the court and in the community," DeRozan said. "Enjoy the game."

How long the positive vibe lasts remains to be seen, as the Raptors face a gruelling early-season schedule, playing 15 of 22 games on the road.

"Our growth may not show until after the first 22 games," coach Dwane Casey, whose team went 10-23 on the road last season, said prior to the game. "But it's the NBA, nobody's feeling sorry for you, the schedule is what it is."

Bargnani scored 11 points in a first quarter that saw the lead change hands eight times. The Pacers led 27-25 after one.

The teams closely paced each other through the second, with Indiana taking a five-point lead with just under two minutes to play. The Raptors scored the final five points of the half and the teams went into the dressing room knotted at 48-48.

The Raptors used a 12-2 run capped by a DeRozan jumper to take a 64-53 lead midway through the third. The Pacers battled back to cut Toronto's advantage to 71-63 with a quarter left to play.

NOTES: The Raptors are in Brooklyn to face the Nets on Saturday and back at the ACC to host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. ... The Raptors went 6-1 in the pre-season, including 5-0 at home. ... Joe Carter, hero of the Toronto Blue Jays' 1993 World Series win, was at the game, along with the band The Sheepdogs. ... It was the seventh time Toronto has played on Halloween.

{allcanada} Nickelback's Chad Kroeger: Avril wants 'unique' wedding

1-800-PetMeds Chalkboard/468x60.gif

http://www.gannett-cdn.com/media/USATODAY/USATODAY/2012/10/31/chad-3_4_r560.jpg?f061b7ce9937c38b702e6f308816ac2a14e2a4ec

Why do people hate Nickelback so much?

Men's Health asked frontman Chad Kroeger, 37, that very question, and a lot more about his life, sex, rock, and fiancee Avril Lavigne, 28.

As for his upcoming wedding? "Let's just say [Avril's] taking the bull by the horns and steering the ship towards what is going to be the most unique wedding that the planet has probably ever seen."

On his Gettin' It On soundtrack when he jumps into bed with Lavigne: "If a naughty Nickelback song came on, my fiancée would probably ask who it was. [Laughs.] She'd be like, 'Who's this? This is good. I like it.'''

As for that hatred of Nickelback, Kroeger acknowledges the concept, saying, "The best story I've heard having to do with my band and the perception of it, this guy came up to Daniel (Adair), our drummer. Daniel was just finishing up on the treadmill at a hotel gym. We had a show later that night, and the guy said to him, 'Can I ask you a question? You're the drummer for Nickelback, right?' And Daniel says, 'Yeah.' And the guy goes, 'I just want to preface this by saying I'm a fan of your band and I have all of your CDs and I will be coming to your show tonight. Can you tell me why ten of my closest friends say they hate your band? I know for a fact that eight of them have tickets for your show tonight, and six of them have bought your last three CDs. But they all claim to hate your band.'"

And yet, the Canadian group's seventh studio album, Here And Now, debuted last November at No. 2 on the Billboard charts. And the group has sold 21 million copies of their last six albums.

As for his wild rocker ways, Men's Health notes that four years ago, Kroeger talked to Playboy magazine about his promiscuity, describing himself as a "walking penis." Now?

Says Kroeger: "I don't think my libido has changed. I just think that my rolodex has been confiscated. And I'm okay with that."

{allcanada} Justin Bieber Flexes, Shows Off His Biceps

Justin Bieber, Twit Pic

Justin Bieber is showing off his guns.

No, not the shootin' kind.

The 18-year-old pop star took to Instagram last night to post of a photo himself posing a lá Mr. Olympia in a white tank-top undershirt.

Both arms are up, his fists are clenched and his biceps are flexed. Biebs gives some serious face as he stares into the camera.

And, of course, there's bling. There's a gold bracelet on his right wrist and a matching watch on the left. A gold and diamond whistle dangles from a chain around his neck.

Bieber's message accompanying the photo reads, "Jb you think you jacked or sum???"

{allcanada} RAONIC BEATS CHARDY, ADVANCES TO PARIS MASTERS THIRD ROUND

PARIS -- Canadian Milos Raonic reached the third round of the Paris Masters with a 6-7(4), 7-6(4), 6-3 victory over Jeremy Chardy of France on Wednesday.

Raonic, seeded 14th thanks to his career-high ranking, kept his hopes alive for a late spot in the eight-man field at the World Tour Finals in London which starts Monday.

The 21-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., must reach the Sunday final in Paris and then hope for the right combination of results from other contenders for the last two spots in the event.

He has never been past the quarter-finals of an ATP Masters 1000 event.

Raonic took the first step at the final regular-season event, defeating Chardy in just over two hours with 26 aces and notching 57 winners in the first meeting between the two players.

Despite 28 unforced errors, Raonic broke Chardy for a 5-3 lead in the final set and then served out the victory on a first match point.

"It was a tough win, I had to fight," said Raonic. "I was not as comfortable as I could have been with my ground strokes, so I had to rely on my serve."

It was Raonic's first victory at the Bercy arena after losing in the first round last year against another Frenchman, Julien Benneteau.

Raonic now has less than 24 hours before he takes to the court against American Sam Querrey in what promises to be a battle of serves.

"I'm forward to to playing Querrey again after losing to him at Wimbledon," said Raonic.

The victory came after Raonic had lost his last two matches in Shanghai and last week in the first round at Valencia.

Re: [SurroundSound] Re: PF Pompeii 40th Anniversary Edition

The one I see, created July 2012,  says it's 4.0, not 5.0.

True, misprint, or is there another?

[SurroundSound] Surround in the car

Hi all,
I wonder how come this issue rarely comes up in this forum-
How many of you have a surround setup in their car?
I have a surround setup in both my house and my car, and I have to admit-
Even though the home system sounds clearer and better, I enjoy my surround more in the car-
Something about the speaker placement, the intimacy of it all, being trully surrounded by the music-
I find it very involving and enjoyable.
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on buying a new 2din HU for my car.
During the begining of this millenium it seemed like the next thing-
just about every car DVD player had DTS and Dolby, and true 5.1 pre-outs.
Now I am searching for a long time and cannot find something that combines all this with a USB that can play movies with surround soundtracks.
I have about 30 DVDs full of DTS encoded surround music- without video, its something like 6-8 full albums per DVD.
If possible, I would like to transfer it all to a USB HD (for example as AVI or MKV with DTS soundtrack).
Is there a HU that fits my desires? the technology exists for several years now...

Before the Vancouver Whitecaps and Los Angeles Galaxy square off in Canada's first-ever Major League Soccer Playoff game, TSN.ca takes a look at how the teams got here and what might lie ahead.

THE RECORDS

Galaxy: 16-12-6, 54 points. Fourth in Western Conference

Whitecaps: 11-13-10, 43 points. Fifth in Western Conference

THE ROAD TO HERE

Galaxy: MLS' marquee club had a tough start to the 2012-13 campaign. The defending champs went 1-3 in their first four matches including a shocking 3-1 defeat to the lowly New England Revolution. A lot of the team's early-season woes could be chalked up to an MLS Cup hangover as well as general strength-of-schedule, drawing three of what would end up being the league's top five teams this season.

The team would hit a worse slide in May, garnering just one point (an away tie with Montreal) from six matches.

However, from the end of summer onward the Galaxy have ripped the league apart. L.A. has gone 6-1-3 over its past 10 games with a staggering five sheets to their credit since August 12.

Whitecaps: Vancouver's sophomore MLS campaign has seen them reach a level of play that their cross-country counterparts in Toronto have not been able to hit in six seasons. The team qualified for the MLS playoffs with a strong start that was aided by the ability to pick up enough points along the way to stay in the picture.

The season started admirably with a pair of shutout victories, at home over the Impact and away to Chivas and the club looked like one of MLS' strongest through 15 games, posting a 7-3-5 record.

The summer, however, was not kind to the Caps, as they went 1-6 between Aug. 15 and Sept. 15 and collected just one victory in their last 10 matches.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Galaxy and Whitecaps squared off three times this season.

June 23: The Galaxy blank Vancouver 3-0 at the Home Depot Center on a trio of first-half goals.

July 18: Vancouver looks primed to earn three points at home when David Beckham and Jose Villarreal score within the final 10 minutes of the match. The teams settle for a 2-2 draw.

Sept. 1: Juninho puts the Galaxy up just before the half, while Beckham puts the game away with a free kick in the 79th. L.A. takes the game 2-0 and the season series 2-0-1.

LUKE WILEMAN'S PLAYERS TO WATCH

Vancouver: Andy O'Brien, D

The veteran O'Brien has been a key to the Whitecaps defensive improvement in recent matches. His experience, leadership and communication have helped the 'Caps keep three clean sheets in the last four matches. O'Brien and Jay DeMerit will have to be at their best to keep LA's stars quiet.

Los Angeles: Juninho, MF

Over the last three years, Juninho has developed into one of the best midfielders in MLS and finishes the year in very good form. He scored six goals in his final 10 matches including a stunning long-range strike against the Whitecaps in September. The 'Caps can't afford to allow him space to influence the game from midfield.
