CALGARY - The Calgary Stampeders stayed in the race for first place in the CFL's West Division for at least another day.

The defending Grey Cup champions improved to 13-4 after a 42-19 win over the visiting Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday.

But the Edmonton Eskimos were also 13-4. They can claim first in the West and the right to host the division final with a victory Sunday against the Montreal Alouettes.

Eric Rogers paced the Stampeders with pair of touchdown catches in front of an announced crowd of 31,591 at McMahon Stadium. With 96 receiving yards in the game, Rogers padded his league-leading total to 1,448.

Joe West had a touchdown catch and backup quarterback Bryant Moniz added a rushing touchdown for Calgary. Running back Jerome Messam rushed for a two-point convert in his Stampeder debut. Marquay McDaniel also contributed a two-point convert catch.

Messam rumbled for 121 yards on 15 carries in his first game since the Roughriders dealt the Toronto native to Calgary on Oct. 14.

Calgary kicker Rene Paredes was successful on four field-goal attempts to reach a career 203. He also kicked two convert points.

Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell completed 21 of 29 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns throws. Mitchell was replaced late in the fourth quarter by Drew Tate, who threw two passes for 22 yards.

Anthony Allen ran for a touchdown and Naaman Roosevelt caught another for Saskatchewan. Kicker Tyler Crapigna add a pair of field goals and a convert.

Roughrider starting quarterback Brett Smith completed 10 of 13 pass attempts for 90 yards before he was replaced by Keith Price at halftime. Price was 15-for-26 in passing for 183 yards and a touchdown pass.

Calgary was already guaranteed a home playoff game — either the division semifinal Nov. 15 or final Nov. 22.

The Stampeders won't be the only team watching Sunday's game in Edmonton with interest as the outcome impacts the post-season prospects of the B.C. Lions (7-10).

An Edmonton victory knocks the Alouettes out of contention for a cross-over playoff berth and the Lions would thus finish third in the West. The Stampeders and Lions meet next Saturday in Vancouver in their regular-season finales.

The Roughriders (2-15) finish the season next Sunday against the Alouettes.

Paredes kicked field goals from 32 and 37 yards and Crapigna was good from 39 yards in the fourth quarter. Price threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Roosevelt at 13:54.

Moniz's one-yard plunge for a TD capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive late in the third to make it 36-10 for the hosts.

A 39-yard field goal by Paredes at 13:38 of the second quarter gave Calgary a 29-10 halftime cushion. Allen scored on a nine-yard carry for Saskatchewan at 12:14 of the second quarter.

Mitchell and West connected on a 15-yard-yard catch and run for a touchdown at 9:07. Paredes' 200th career field goal was a 13-yarder at 3:35.Mitchell found Rogers on the Roughrider goal-line with a 24-yard throw at 10:12 of the first quarter. Rogers carried his momentum over the line despite a low, hard tackle by Roughrider Don Unamba.

Mitchell's three-yard throw to McDaniel gave McDaniel his fifth two-point convert of the season, which was a CFL record.

Calgary traded Crapigna to the 'Riders in the Messam deal. The 22-year-old from Ottawa kicked a 45-yard field goal at 7:18 of the opening quarter.

The Stampeders scored on their first possession of the game thanks to a 56-yard kickoff return by Tori Harrison. Mitchell finished the drive with a 15-yard pass to Rogers deep in the end zone.
