Brandon Tanev agreed to terms on a six-year, $21 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday. The contract has an average annual value of $3.5 million.
The 27-year-old forward had NHL career highs in goals (14), assists (15) and points (29) in 80 regular-season games with the Winnipeg Jets last season and two points (one goal, one assist) in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"He's a great penalty killer. He's got the good speed. He gets chances on the PK to score," Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said. "The speed, the fact that we think he can move up and down the lineup a bit, hard to play against 5-on-5, good team guy. I talked to some people that follow him really close and everybody spoke really highly of him."
Signed as an undrafted free agent by Winnipeg on March 30, 2016, Tanev has 51 points (24 goals, 27 assists) in 195 regular-season games and eight points (five goals, three assists) in 22 playoff games.
