Tyler Myers signed a five-year, $30 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. The contract has an average annual value of $6 million.
The 29-year-old defenseman had 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists) in 80 regular-season games with the Winnipeg Jets last season and no points in six Stanley Cup Playoff games.
"Tyler has made a big impact on every team he's played on throughout his career and we're excited about how he'll improve our blueline next season," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said. "He gets up and down the ice with ease, has incredible size and reach, but most importantly he's a character player and role model that our younger players can emulate."
Selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the first round (No. 12) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Myers has 265 points (74 goals, 191 assists) in 635 games with the Jets and Sabres. He has 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 39 playoff games.
Myers, who was acquired by Winnipeg in a seven-player trade on Feb. 11, 2015, that sent forward Evander Kane to Buffalo, won the Calder Trophy as the NHL rookie of the year in 2009-10, when he had 48 points (11 goals, 37 assists) in 82 games.
The Canucks also signed defensemen Jordie Benn to a two-year, $4 million contract ($2 million average annual value) and Oscar Fantenberg to a one-year, $850,000 contract.
Benn had NHL career-highs in goals (five) and points (22) in 81 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season. The 31-year-old was plus-15 in 18:12 of ice time per game.
"Jordie is an experienced defenseman who brings leadership and toughness to our team," Benning said. "His steady presence in the defensive zone, ability to battle and read plays will be an example and support to our young players."
Signed by the Dallas Stars as a free agent on July 1, 2011, Benn has 110 points (22 goals, 88 assists) in 473 regular-season games with the Canadiens and Stars and three assists in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Fantenberg had four points (two goals, two assists) in 61 games with the Los Angeles Kings and Calgary Flames last season, and no points in three playoff games with the Flames. The 27-year-old had been acquired by the Flames in a trade with the Kings on Feb. 25 for a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
"Oscar brings positional awareness and a strong all-around game to our team," Benning said. "His puck moving ability and shot adds depth to our [defensemen group] and qualities that will push our group to be better every game."
Signed by the Kings on May 3, 2017, he has 13 points (four goals, nine assists) 88 NHL games.
Vancouver also signed center Tyler Graovac to a two-way contract. No financial terms were released.
The 26-year-old had 50 points (24 goals, 26 assists) in 65 games with Stockton, the Calgary Flames' American Hockey League affiliate. Drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the seventh round (No. 191) of the 2011 NHL Draft, he has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 62 NHL games with the Wild and Washington Capitals.
