{allcanada} Perry, Sekera sign one-year contracts with Stars

Corey Perry signed a one-year, $1.5-million contract with the Dallas Stars on Monday. Perry can earn an additional $1.75 million in performance-based incentives.

The 34-year-old forward had the final two seasons of the eight-year contract he signed March 18, 2013, bought out by the Anaheim Ducks on June 19.

"Corey is a warrior in every sense of the word and his experience playing in big situations will be a big asset to our group," Stars general manager Jim Nill said. "He has a championship pedigree and this addition gives us tremendous flexibility with how we can manage our forward group."

Perry, who was selected by the Ducks with the No. 28 pick in the 2003 NHL Draft, is Anaheim's leader in games played (988), is second in goals (372), and is third in assists (404) and points (776). He was limited to 31 games last season, his 14th with Anaheim, after recovering from surgery on his right knee and had 10 points (six goals, four assists). The last time he scored more than 19 goals was 2015-16, when he scored 34, his sixth season with at least 30.

Perry, who won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007, has 89 points (36 goals, 53 assists) in 118 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

He led the NHL with 50 goals in 2010-11 and became the only player in Ducks history to win the Hart Trophy, voted regular-season MVP. He was an NHL First-Team All-Star in 2010-11 and in 2013-14.

"They have everything that I want in a hockey team," Perry said of the Stars. "They're on the verge of putting something really great together and I want to be a part of that. That's why I chose Dallas."

The Stars also signed defenseman Andrej Sekera to a one-year, $1.5-million contract. The 33-year-old can earn an additional $500,000 in performance-based incentives.

"Andrej is a solid, puck-moving defenseman who will solidify our group of defenseman," Nill said. "With this addition, we enter the season comfortable with our depth at the position, as well as the ability to match up against any type of opponent."

A third-round (No. 71) pick by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2004 NHL Draft, Sekera has 236 points (45 goals, 191 assists) in 707 NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers, Carolina Hurricanes and Sabres.
