The Toronto Maple Leafs look like they will be celebrating their 100th anniversary outside.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, sources say the Leafs are front runners to host the 2017 Winter Classic or a Stadium Series game next season.

Although nothing is set in stone, reports say the NHL is debating between the annual game on Jan. 1 or a different outdoor game at a later date in large part due to the busy Toronto sports market. The World Cup of Hockey is in town in September, followed by the 104th Grey Cup in November and the World Junior Hockey Championship in December.

Either way, the game is expected be played at BMO Field.

LeBrun also reports that the New York Rangers are the likely opponent.
