{allcanada} Connor McDavid practicing with Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton Oilers rookie center Connor McDavid is skating with the team during practice Friday.

McDavid, the No. 1 selection in the 2015 NHL Draft, has been sidelined since fracturing his clavicle after crashing into the end boards Nov. 3 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The 18-year-old has been skating on his own for more than two weeks.

"The good thing was this was an upper-body injury ...," McDavid said. "There was no excuse not to come back in shape."

McDavid had five goals and seven assists in 13 games for Edmonton prior to sustaining the injury.

"I think he's on schedule ...," coach Todd McLellan said. "His spirit is really good. I think he really enjoyed practice today."

The Oilers were 5-8-0 with McDavid in the lineup and are 10-13-3 without him following a 1-0 loss against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

Right wing Nail Yakupov also was practicing. He hasn't played since Nov. 25 because of a sprained ankle.

The Oilers host the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. It is unknown if McDavid or Yakupov will be available.
