CANUCKS (3-2-3) at STARS (7-2-0)
TV: SNV, FS-SW
Season series: The Dallas Stars were 3-0-0 against the Vancouver Canucks last season and have won the past seven games by a score of 29-10. Stars forward Tyler Seguin led all skaters with four points (two goals, two assists). Teammate Jamie Benn has 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in his past 10 games against Vancouver.
Canucks team scope: Vancouver coach Willie Desjardins left open the possibility that goalie Richard Bachman could make his first start Thursday with Miller returning for the second of a back-to-back Friday at the Arizona Coyotes. Miller has started all nine games and made 25 saves in a 5-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. "It probably depends just on the flight to [Dallas], make sure [Miller is] rested," Desjardins said in video posted on the Canucks website. "We're not going to push him if he's not feeling good or if he's tired we're not going to push him." The Canucks did not practice Wednesday. Forward Brandon Prust was scheduled for an MRI on his left ankle injured Tuesday and is not on the trip. Defenseman Dan Hamhuis (lower body) is being evaluated and will not make the trip. Defenseman Alex Biega and forward Brendan Gaunce were recalled from Utica of the American Hockey League.
Stars team scope: Dallas coach Lindy Ruff skated the same lines at practice Wednesday he reconfigured in the second period of a 4-3 win Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks. Cody Eakin centered Jamie Benn and Seguin on the top line, and Patrick Sharp moved to the second line with Jason Spezza and Valeri Nichushkin. The Stars have won six of their past seven games and are 3-1-0 at home, and Ruff is determined to improve on their 17-16-8 record at American Airlines Center last season. "We have to establish that we can be a real good, tough team to play at home," Ruff told the Stars website. "If that means we have to do some adjusting with the lines, I'm going to do that." Defenseman Jason Demers returns after sitting out two games because of a suspension. Forwards Patrick Eaves (lower body), Travis Moen (upper body) and Curtis McKenzie skated before practice. Ruff said Eaves is closest of the three to returning, but it's not expected during the homestand.
