{allcanada} WHL: Tambellini scores two in second period as Hitmen defeat Hurricanes

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - One period was all the Calgary Hitmen needed for a win on Saturday night.

Adam Tambellini scored two of the Hitmen's five-straight goals in the second period en route to defeating the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-3 in Western Hockey League action.

Jake Bean, Pavel Karnaukhov and Carsen Twarynski also had goals in the period for Calgary (23-15-4). Brendan Burke only needed 13 saves to record the win.

Brayden Burke struck twice for the Hurricanes (10-24-6) with Giorgio Estephan adding the other. Jayden Sittler stopped 37 shots in goal.

The Hitmen scored once on three power plays while Lethbridge went 1 for 2.

RAIDERS 6 PATS 5

REGINA — Kris Schmidli scored two of Prince Albert's four first-period goals to beat the Pats.

Austin Glover and Tim Vanstone also scored in the first for the Raiders (19-23-1). Craig Leverton and Jayden Hart rounded out the attack for the club's third-straight win.

Taylor Cooper countered with a hat trick for Regina (22-15-5). Colby Williams and Adam Brooks also had goals.

SILVERTIPS 3 BRONCOS 1

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Ivan Nikolishin scored one-of-three power-play goals in the second period for Everett as it slipped past the Broncos.

Noah Juulsen and Patrick Bajkov also found the back of the net for the Silvertips (26-12-4).

Colby Cave replied with his 20th of the season for Swift Current (20-18-5).

WARRIORS 4 OIL KINGS 3

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Axel Blomqvist scored his first goal since he was traded to the Warriors and it proved to be the winner as they edged Edmonton.

Dustin Perillat, Brett Howden and Tanner Eberle also chipped in for Moose Jaw (17-23-4). The win snaps a three-game losing streak.

Brandon Baddock, Davis Koch and Brett Pollock all scored for the Oil Kings (20-17-5), who had their four-game winning streak halted.

BLADES 6 ICE 4

CRANBOOK, B.C. — Wyatt Sloboshan struck twice in the second period as Saskatoon got past the Ice.

Cameron Hebig, Brycen Martin, Sam McKechnie and Brett Stovin rounded out the attack for the Blades (10-29-3), who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Levi Cable had a pair of goals for Kootenay (21-20-1), with Luke Philp and Tim Bozon adding the others.

REBELS 6 WHEAT KINGS 1

RED DEER, Alta. — Presten Kopeck scored twice and added an assist as the Rebels routed Brandon.

Riley Sheen had two-of-three first-period goals for Red Deer (23-14-5). Connor Gay scored two goals of his own in the third period to extend the team's win streak to three.

Colton Waltz chipped in midway through the second for the No. 3 nationally-ranked Wheat Kings (29-9-4).

WINTERHAWKS 5 GIANTS 3

PORTLAND, Ore. — Oliver Bjorkstrand scored the winner shorthanded and added another in the third period as the Winterhawks downed Vancouver.

Miles Koules, Keegan Iverson and Alex Schoenborn supplied the rest of the Portland (23-18-3) offence.

Tyler Benson struck twice for the Giants (19-21-2) with Zane Jones adding the other in his first game since being acquired from Lethbridge.

TIGERS 5 ROCKETS 3

KELOWNA, B.C. — Markus Eisenschmid and Cole Sanford both scored twice as No. 7 Medicine Hat got past the No. 2 Rockets.

Chad Butcher opened the scoring for the Tigers (29-10-2) in the first period.

Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl, Madison Bowey and Justin Kirkland chipped in for Kelowna (33-7-3). It was the Rockets' first loss in five games.

VICTORIA — Alex Forsberg had a hat trick to lead the Royals over Prince George.

Greg Chase and Brandon Magee also found the back of the net for Victoria (22-19-3).

Brad Morrison and Josh Connolly responded in the third period for the Cougars (20-23-1).

CHIEFS 5 BLAZERS 2

SPOKANE, Wash. — Liam Stewart had a goal and two assists as the Chiefs beat Kamloops.

Markson Bechtold, Adam Helewka and Devon McAndrews also scored to give Spokane (23-15-3) a 4-0 lead to start the game. Dominic Zwerger added his 10th of the season in the third period.

Jesse Zaharichuk and Cole Ully chipped in with second-period goals for the Blazers (14-24-6).
