CANUCKS (18-7-1) at MAPLE LEAFS (13-9-3)

TV: CBC

Season series: The Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs split their two games last season. The Canucks won 4-0 in Vancouver on Nov. 2, 2013, and extended their shutout streak into the third period of the rematch in Toronto on Feb. 8, 2014, but Phil Kessel had the decisive goal and an assist to help the Maple Leafs rally for a 3-1 win.

Canucks team scope: Ryan Miller figures to be back in goal for Vancouver after backup Eddie Lack pitched a shutout Thursday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brad Richardson scored twice in a 3-0 win that put Vancouver into first place in the Pacific Division entering games Friday (the Canucks held a tiebreaker over the Anaheim Ducks, who visit the Minnesota Wild). Richardson, who also assisted on Shawn Matthias' goal, has three goals and six points in the past four games. With six goals and 13 points, he's on pace to break his career highs in each category (14 goals in 2006-07 for the Colorado Avalanche and 27 points in 2009-10 for the Los Angeles Kings). The Canucks have won 11 of 15 road games this season.

Maple Leafs team scope: A streak of five straight games with at least a point (4-0-1) ended Thursday with a 5-3 home loss to the New Jersey Devils, and Toronto tries to begin a new run against a tough cross-conference opponent. "They're a good team, they won [Thursday] night in a tough building," center Tyler Bozak said Friday. "We have to be ready." Kessel had a power-play goal to close the scoring Thursday in his 389th straight game, the fifth-longest active streak. He has two goals and two assists in a three-game point streak. "I love to play the games," he said according to TSN 1050 in Toronto. "You never want to miss any." If goalie Jonathan Bernier gets the start Saturday it would be his eighth in a row.
