
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Spencer Bennett had two goals and an assist to lead the Portland Winterhawks over the Vancouver Giants 7-2 in Western Hockey League play on Monday night.
Bennett scored early in the first period then added a power-play goal in the third to lead a balanced attack in the home opener.
Ty Rattie and Brad Ross both had a goal and an assist for Portland (1-1-0) while Brendan Leipsic, Josh Hanson and Seth Swenson also scored.
Portland was 2-of-7 on the power play
Brendan Gallagher and James Henry scored for the Giants. Henry scored on the power play as Vancouver (1-2)=0 went one for six with the man advantage.
Keith Hamilton stopped 30 shots for Portland, while Giants goalie Derek Tendler made 33 saves.
