{allcanada} CANADIAN MEN TO PLAY SOCCER FRIENDLY IN GREECE IN 2011

TORONTO - Canada will visit former European champion Greece for a men's soccer friendly Feb. 9.

The match, at a venue to be announced later, will be part of Canada's early preparations for the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Greece is currently ranked 12th in the world by FIFA, compared to No. 88 for Canada.

"Whenever you play a FIFA World Cup team, it is a special occasion," Canadian coach Stephen Hart said in a statement. "It was also not that long ago that Greece was a European champion, so the match will be challenging. Playing Greece in Greece will be good for us as we continue to develop as a team."

Greece went 1-2 at the 2010 World Cup, exiting after the first round. The Greeks won the European championship in 2004.

This will be Canada's first trip to Greece.

Canada previously faced Greece three times, all in 1988. The visiting Greeks won two games and drew the third.

Canada is coming off a 2-1 win over Honduras on Sept. 7 in Montreal. Its next fixture is Oct. 8 against Ukraine in Kyiv.

The Canadian men were beaten 5-0 in May when they played in Argentina, then ranked seventh in the world.
