Goaltender Alex Auld has signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens worth $1 million.

The 29-year-old split last season with the New York Rangers and the Dallas Stars.

The Habs were looking for a backup to Carey Price, who they recently committed to as their No. 1 goaltender by trading Jaroslav Halak to the St. Louis Blues.

Auld, a 6'5, 221-pound Alberta native, was selected 40th overall by the Panthers in the second round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

During his career, he has played for the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, Dallas Stars and the Rangers.
