[SurroundSound] Any MAC guys in this wonderful group?

I'm new to all this downloading & burning of sound files on my MAC...
and could really use some advice for how to easily burn flac, ape, wv,
dts, nrg, mdf, wma, and cdr files using TOAST 10 (which I recently
downloaded.) I can figure out mp3 and iso files rather easily... but
those others are driving me nutty! Is a wv file the same as a
wav? :-)

{allcanada} TFC blow it in K.C.

SKECHERS

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Teal Bunbury took advantage of a defensive miscue and scored in the 61st minute to lift the Kansas City Wizards to a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday night.

The win gave Kansas City (5-8-4) its first three-match unbeaten streak of the year, while Toronto (6-6-5) fell to 1-6-1 in road games.

The Wizards, who were coming off a 2-1 exhibition victory over Manchester United last Sunday, were slow to get their offence on track against Toronto with only one shot on goal in the first half.

But in the 61st minute, Bunbury -- a Hamilton native and the son of former Canadian international Alex Bunbury -- tracked down a botched back pass by Adrian Cann and struck a line-drive header from the edge of the penalty area.

Toronto FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei got a hand on the ball the ball, but the high deflection curled down and glanced off the bottom of the crossbar and in.

The Reds' offence didn't create many opportunities either, as Wizards 'keeper Jimmy Nielsen had to make just two saves for his seventh shutout. Nielsen's only serious test came in the 43rd minute, when he had to dive to his right to deflect Mista's hard shot from 15 yards.

{allcanada} Riders kick aside Ticats

TheBabyOutlet

REGINA -- The Saskatchewan Roughriders weathered a record-tying performance from Arland Bruce III and got seven field goals from Luca Congi in a 37-24 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday at Mosaic Stadium.

Bruce had his way with the Saskatchewan secondary for much of the game, finishing with 16 catches for 272 yards with two touchdowns. The reception total tied a CFL single-game record previously shared by Terry Greer, Brian Wiggins, and Derrell Mitchell.

But the Roughriders seized control in the second half, outscoring the TiCats 24-10 on the strength of three Congi field goals, a kickoff single from Eddie Johnson, and Wes Cates' second rushing major of the game.

Darian Durant's 35-yard third-quarter pass to Andy Fantuz set up Cates's first touchdown run, which gave the Riders a lead they would not relinquish.

That major followed four straight field goals by Congi, who had 12 of the Riders' 13 points up to that point in the game.

Congi's longest kick of the day came from 42 yards out.

One highlight for Bruce came when he danced around Riders defensive back Lance Frazier on a 27-yard reception in the second quarter.

But Frazier made amends in the third when he picked off quarterback Kevin Glenn and returned the ball 83 yards to the Hamilton two-yard line, setting up Congi's fifth field goal.

Sandro DeAngelis' 18-yard fourth-quarter field goal and Bruce's second touchdown reception provided the second-half offence for Hamilton (1-4).

Johnson also kicked a punt single for Saskatchewan (4-1), which regained top spot in the CFL's West Division.

Durant completed 21 of his 35 pass attempts for 270 yards with one interception.

Glenn was 31-for-45 with 425 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.

{allcanada} OILERS RE-SIGN GOALIE DESLAURIERS TO A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

TheBabyOutlet

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed goaltender Jeff Deslauriers to a one-year contract, the team announced Saturday.

Deslauriers was 16-28-4 last season with a 3.26 goals-against average and .901 save percentage.

The St-Jean-Richelieu, Que., native took over between the pipes after veteran netminder Nikolai Khabibulin went down with a back injury.

Deslauriers put together a season-best five-game winning streak in December, backstopping the Oilers to five consecutive road victories.

The 26-year-old was drafted by Edmonton 31st overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

{allcanada} Jays stay quiet

livePCsupport

TORONTO -- A key tenet of Alex Anthopoulos's approach in running the Toronto Blue Jays is creating options for himself, and it's because nothing was forcing his hand that he stood pat as Saturday's non-waiver trade deadline came and went.

The rookie general manager felt there was more value in the compensatory draft picks potential free agents like Scott Downs, Jason Frasor, Kevin Gregg and John Buck will bring the team should they sign elsewhere this winter, than in any of the offers he was presented with, so he refused to settle for sub-par stock.

Without any financial pressures forcing him to make deals, Anthopoulos was able to aim high in his talks with several teams, and then stick to his price-point as the minutes ticked away. As things stand now, that foursome could bring back as many as six picks within the first 50 or so spots in the 2011 draft if they move on this winter, so he had no reason to accept anything less.

"For me any negotiation is about your alternatives and that's what you base it off of," said Anthopoulos. "If you don't have that many alternatives, or your alternatives aren't strong, than your decision-making process changes.

"But alternatives are key."

The same principle applies to Jose Bautista, a rumour-mill darling the past week whom the Blue Jays hold under contractual control through next season. Aside from his emergence into a core piece both on the field and in the clubhouse, Anthopoulos really had no reason to move him unless the return forced his hand.

No such proposal came.

"He's a player I think the world of," said Anthopoulos. "There's no question he's an important part of it."

The lesson for his counterparts, if they haven't figured it out yet, is that once Anthopoulos sets his price he doesn't come off it, and he won't accept less talent just because a player is more major-league ready than another option. So draft picks and the shot at an elite player they bring carry far more appeal to him than a collection of mediocrity.

"(The draft pick) may not pan out, maybe a 20 per cent chance and it's still further down the road, but back-end starters, middle relievers, utility players -- we can acquire those players," he said. "The biggest challenge we have, and almost every club has, is getting those elite players.

"No matter what we do, unless it's value for value, we're always going to shoot high and try to get those impact players."

The lack of movement was well received in a clubhouse that had begun to feel the weight of weeks worth of speculation. Players were asked seemingly every day about the latest hot rumour and the whole process became tiresome.

"It started to, I can't lie," said Downs, who pitched a scoreless ninth in a 2-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians. "But it's a business, I've got a job to do, (Anthopoulos) has a job to do, and we have a job to do as a team. I'm glad to see everybody back together."

Bautista agreed: "There were a lot of rumours out there, but the end result is I'm where I wanted to be."

Across the diamond from them, the Indians were far busier, dealing Saturday's scheduled starter Jake Westbrook to St. Louis in a three-way deal that also included San Diego, and sending closer Kerry Wood to the New York Yankees.

"Every time I talked to my agent it was nothing going on until (Friday) night," Westbrook said before taking a flight to St. Louis. "I'm excited to go to a club contending for a playoff spot and pitch in some meaningful ball games."

The Blue Jays are hoping they can say the same in the near future.

Asked before the game how far away he felt his team was from being a contender, manager Cito Gaston said, "maybe a couple of years, that's what I think."

He added that the Blue Jays might have been in better shape right now had Adam Lind and Aaron Hill performed the way they did last season and the relievers had been better.

"If those guys were hitting, maybe we would have won some of those games, maybe we would not have," said Gaston. "The problem we had this year is we lost some games out of the bullpen. That's what has really bothered us a lot. Then there's time we didn't score, but there are times we didn't pitch well out of the pen, either. It's real close now, but you've got to win those games."

Regardless, the Blue Jays are likely to be younger next season, when prized prospects like starter Kyle Drabek and catcher J.P. Arencibia are expected to complete their climb to the majors. It's very possible the team takes a step backwards as they experience growing pains to take two steps forward in 2012.

"There's a good chance that might happen," said Gaston, before qualifying his answer. "If these kids come back and pitch like they have this year, and if the guys come back and hit, if Lind comes back and Hill comes back and Vernon (Wells) just does what he's doing and Bautista comes back and does something close to what he's doing ... you talk about (Yunel) Escobar, (Fred) Lewis, (Travis) Snider, that's still a pretty good hitting lineup there, pretty good power there, so I think the thing that will throw them a step back might be the bullpen.

"The bullpen might have a problem if (Downs, Frasor and Gregg) are not there."

The Blue Jays know now that they'll have those three through the end of the season, at least, and having veterans anchor the bullpen is something Anthopoulos believes is "certainly a great formula for a staff."

But change is coming, if not in an August waiver deal, than in the off-season.

"There were a lot of scenarios out there that we could have made a trade that would have been the right value, but I don't think anyone in our room or myself specifically walked away and said this is really going to be a changer for us, this is really going to impact the club," said Anthopoulos. "If we weren't really compelled to do something, we weren't going to do it.

"When you have players who could have draft-pick compensation attached to them, you have a lot of options."

{allcanada} Jays stand pat, fall to Indians

livePCsupport

TORONTO -- No deal sums it up for the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday -- both on the field and in trade negotiations.

Pinch-hitter Travis Snider struck out with the bases loaded to end the game as the Blue Jays lost 2-1 to the Cleveland Indians. And about five minutes later, the non-waiver trade deadline came and went.

Cleveland's victory before a Rogers Centre crowd of 22,663 ended the Blue Jays four-game winning streak.

Not that the Blue Jays didn't have chances. Twice in the game they had the bases loaded with one out -- the third and the ninth -- but couldn't score.

"It was one of those games that we weren't meant to win," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said. "A lot of things happened that just could have gone the other way and given us a chance to win."

It was a game in which neither starter, Cleveland's Josh Tomlin and Toronto's Brett Cecil figured in the decision. Jensen Lewis (3-2) picked up the win for one inning of relief and Brian Tallet (1-4) went two-thirds of an inning to take the loss.

Chris Perez worked out of the ninth-inning jam by striking out Edwin Encarnacion and Snider to earn his 11th save.

The winning run came in the seventh and was the result of a bloop double to left by Shin-soo Choo.

The ball bounced into foul territory and hit the top of the barrier in front of the seats. It came off at an awkward angle for left fielder Fred Lewis who bobbled the ball when he tried to grab it with his bare hand.

Asdrubal Cabrera, who walked with one out, scored from first on the play.

Lewis was again a victim in the eighth, but this time as a hitter. His leadoff drive appeared to be going over the head of Shelley Duncan but the left fielder made a diving catch.

Cecil was removed from a 1-1 game after six innings in which he allowed five hits and five walks while striking out five.

Jake Westbrook was scheduled to start for Cleveland on Saturday but was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals earlier.

Sunday's scheduled starting pitcher, Josh Tomlin, made the start instead on three days` rest. It was his second major-league start. He beat the Yankees in his major-league debut on July 27.

Tomlin was 8-4, with a 2.68 earned-run average this season for Triple-A Columbus. In 5 1/3 innings Saturday, he allowed one run on four hits including Jose Molina's fourth homer of the season in the fifth.

Cecil walked Jason Donald with the bases loaded to force in a run in the fourth.

"He wasn't really on today," Gaston said. "I don't think he had good velocity today. I think he topped out a couple of times at 91. I`ve seen him out there hit 93- 94 sometimes. He kept us in the game. We had some chances we just didn't take advantage of them."

"I did not have my good stuff," Cecil said. "After the fourth inning I think (pitching coach Bruce Walton) came up to me and said start the game over, just go out there like you're starting the game."

Cecil made 114 pitches and appreciated the chance to close out the sixth after he gave up a one-out double and a two-out walk. He finished the inning and his outing with a strikeout of Chris Gimenez.

"I loved getting the chance to get out of my own situation," Cecil said. "Honestly, l thought after the double he (Gaston) was going to take me out."

The Blue Jays sixth started out well as Bautista led off with a walk and Wells singled. But Bautista was thrown out trying to return to second after rounding the base. Lewis replaced Tomlin and his first batter, Adam Lind, lined into a double play.

The Blue Jays still had a chance to win after Wells led off the ninth with a single against Perez. Lind was hit on the knee by a pitch and Dewayne Wise ran for him.

After Aaron Hill sacrificed the runners to second and third, Lyle Overbay was walked intentionally. Perez ended the game with two strikeouts.

Notes: Jesse Litsch (1-4, 5.48 ERA) is scheduled to pitch the series finale Sunday for Toronto against Jeanmar Gomez (1-0, 0.00). ... Snider who was called up from Double A for Friday's game did not start for the second game in a row Saturday. He went on the disabled list May 15 with an injured wrist. He was a pinch-runner in the eighth inning of Toronto's 8-1 victory on Friday. ...The Blue Jays have homered in 12 consecutive games.

{allcanada} Eskimos fire Maciocia

livePCsupport

EDMONTON -- Danny Maciocia paid the price for Edmonton's poor start to the CFL season on Saturday, as the Eskimos relieved him of his duties as general manager and director of football operations.

Maciocia was given the news just a day after the Eskimos picked up their first victory of the season with a 28-25 win over the B.C. Lions.

"Going forward we just didn't see him in our longer-view plans so we proceeded with this action today," Eskimos president Rick LeLacheur said.

The team's coaching staff, including head coach Richie Hall, remained in place.

Maciocia, 43, was first hired by the Eskimos in 2002 as an offensive co-ordinator. He later spent four seasons as head coach before taking on GM and director of football operation duties in 2008.

LeLacheur said the team will begin a search for a new general manager immediately.

"I'm going to find the best football person that we possibly can," LeLacheur said. "If that's next week or next month or after the season, I don't know the time frame. There is no time frame as far as I'm concerned right now."

The Eskimos opened the season with a 25-10 loss to the Lions. They followed that with a 33-23 loss to Montreal, a 24-20 loss to Saskatchewan and then a 47-21 drubbing in Winnipeg last week.

After the loss to the Blue Bombers, the Eskimos were read the riot act by LeLacheur, who questioned his team's toughness and promised changes without a reversal of fortune against the Lions.

Edmonton showed some life in the win over B.C., and avoided matching the worst start in team history, an 0-5 run in 1965.

But it wasn't enough to save Maciocia's job.

Maciocia helped guide the Eskimos to Grey Cup wins in 2003 and 2005, but had recently become a target for fans upset at the team's performance.

"It plays into it ... unfortunately we all know Danny has been tagged in this community," LeLacheur said. "I don't totally understand it, I don't know why. But it does affect the business."

When asked to explain further, LeLacheur said: "They blame him for everything, like maybe for the storm last night."

A thunderstorm forced a temporary halt to Friday night's game.

Maciocia wasn't available for comment. Head coach Richie Hall said perhaps the GM shouldn't have been the one to lose his job.

"It should have been me, not him. I'm responsible for the football team," said a subdued Hall.

Quarterback Ricky Ray was also feeling the sting of personal responsibility as players practised at Commonwealth Stadium.

"Danny didn't drop the passes or throw interceptions or miss blocks," Ray said. "That was us out there ... as a result of our bad play, he's taken the fall.

"He's taken a lot of criticism ... if (fans) only knew how much heart and soul he's put into this."

Hall said everyone on the team has to take responsibility going forward.

"We're all assembled here to win football games and that's our main goal when all is said and done," Hall said. "When we don't win football games, there are consequences.

"Our job next week, regardless of what did or didn't transpire today is to go out there and give us the best opportunity to beat Toronto."

The somewhat merciless nature of fans hungry for a winner was also on the mind of quarterback Jason Maas, who considers Maciocia a close friend.

"This is a crappy business, this is a great game," he said.

Maas said while the pressure can be relentless, that's also one of the reasons why the Eskimos love playing in Edmonton.

"This city expects a winner every year and when you're not doing that, they grow a great disdain for you and that's been very obvious playing here," Maas said.

When asked whether he thought the fans' resentment against Maciocia was unfair, Maas said people pay their money to see a winning team and have a right to their opinions.

"Is it fair? No, life's not fair though either," he said. "You have just got to deal with it and move on."

{allcanada} GEORGES LARAQUE NAMED A DEPUTY LEADER OF GREEN PARTY

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

MONTREAL -- The federal Greens are hoping a former NHL tough guy will help beef up the party's presence in Quebec.

Party leader Elizabeth May has named Georges Laraque as a deputy leader of the Green Party of Canada.

The 260-pound former Montreal Canadiens enforcer joined the Greens last February but his role has been undefined until now.

The announcement is part of an attempt by the party to gain traction in the province.

Laraque will join Adriane Carr as a second deputy leader of the Greens.

Under the party's constitution, there are two deputy leaders.

He will replace Jacques Rivard, who jumped ship to the Bloc Quebecois in June.

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

TORONTO - Cleveland's Jake Westbrook has been scratched from his scheduled start against the Blue Jays, a sign the Indians are close to trading the pitcher.

The Indians have been discussing trading the pitcher to the St. Louis Cardinals, which would be part of a three-team deal that also includes San Diego.

A 2004 all-star, the 32-year-old right-hander is 6-7 with a 4.65 ERA in 21 starts this year and has a 69-71 record in 10 major league seasons.

Josh Tomlin started in Westbrook's place Saturday afternoon.

{allcanada} ROUGHRIDERS WELCOME STUMBLING TIGER-CATS ON TSN

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

HAMILTON, Ont. -- Marwan Hage was born in Beirut and raised in Montreal, giving him with the ability to chastise or encourage his Hamilton Tiger-Cat teammates fluently in three languages.

At this point in the season, though, his message would sound the same in English, French or Arabic.

"Nothing needs to be said," the veteran centre said. "Everybody knows we're a good team. We know we're a good team. The bottom line is we've got to go out and perform."

The Ticats have stumbled to a 1-3 start this season, falling into sole possession of last place in the CFL's East Division when many had predicted they would challenge for the lead. Hamilton has struggled in areas where it had once seemed secure, and the team will not find a sympathetic ear on Saturday when it travels to Regina to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

You can see the game on TSN and TSN HD beginning at 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt.

It is not an unfamiliar position for the Ticats, but it is unexpected given the steps forward the franchise finally seemed to take last year.

Hamilton hosted its first playoff game in eight years last season, which was a welcome development for a fan base drained by four consecutive last-place finishes. Kevin Glenn established himself as the starting quarterback and DeAndra' Cobb showed promise as a versatile running back.

The team bolstered hopes over the off-season by signing kicker Sandro DeAngelis, but he has instead become a leading contributor to Hamilton's early malaise. The ultra-confident 29-year-old has misfired on five of his first 11 field goal attempts of the year, leaving him with the worst success rate (54.5 per cent) in the league heading into Week 5.

Cobb, a revelation as a rookie, has been comparatively silent a month into his sophomore year. The 29-year-old has been held to an average of only 34.2 rushing yards a game, compared to the 71.6 that he managed last season.

Hamilton has already been blown out twice, suffering two defeats of at least 20 points, including a 37-14 loss to the division-leading Montreal Alouettes last week.

"I don't know if there's anything wrong with this team," Ticats head coach Marcel Bellefeuille said. "I fee like the team's headed in the right direction."

He said the coaching staff will tweak its approach to short-yardage situations and iron out some wrinkles on special teams. Bellefeuille downplayed the chance of any dramatic course of action, such as changing the quarterback or jumpstarting a rotation between Glenn and third-year understudy Quinton Porter.

"It's not showing up in the win column, but we're doing a lot of good things," Glenn said. "We're doing small things not right -- little things -- and we've just got to make sure we do those things right."

Glenn has only thrown one interception in four games, which is surely one of the things the offence has done right, and he also has one of the highest completion percentages (65.2) in the league.

"We know what our problem is," Hage said. "We know we're a disciplined team. It's just a matter of going out and putting all our weapons together and putting up a great fight."

And a fight is what they will find in Regina.

Saskatchewan (3-1) was upended in a 40-20 loss to Calgary last week, and should enjoy the benefit of a raucous home crowd at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday. The Roughriders had opened the season with three straight wins, and they remain undefeated in two games at home.

"We're an offence with opportunities anywhere on the field," said Roughriders receiver Prechae Rodriguez, who spent his first two CFL seasons with the Ticats. "A lot of playmakers. It's awesome to be a part of that."

Saskatchewan quarterback Darian Durant entered the week with the league lead in passing yards, with 1,325, and was tied for second with eight touchdown passes. No offence had scored more touchdowns (14) or generated more total offence per game (490 yards) than Saskatchewan's.

"Hamilton's a great organization," Rodriguez said. "I know they got a good game plan for coming in here this week. It's a very explosive offence over there, as well."

The trick for the Ticats, then, will be finding the trigger for that explosive offence.

"They're a good team, and they've shown that they're a good team," Glenn said. "But I think we're doing some good things, and we're a good team, too."

{allcanada} Canuck beauty Estella slims down

Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC

LOS ANGELES -- Frugality seems to be the new maxim for one of the sexiest women in the world, Canadian model/actress and swimming champ Estella Warren.

Warren has decided to downsize on a huge mortgage payment and take a small loss on the Beverly Hills-area home she bought four years ago -- at the height of her fame -- for $1.78 million. She had also plunked down tens of thousands of dollars for renovations.

With no news of any fresh modeling contracts -- she once modeled for Ugg Australia, Victoria Secret, Chanel, Cartier, etc. -- or big silver-screen roles (she did Planet of the Apes with Mark Wahlberg in 2001 and co-starred with Jerry O'Connell in Kangaroo Jack in 2003) -- it's a good guess she's realizing it's time to watch the bills.

Warren, 31, had put the 1959-built home on the market a year ago for $1.95 million, but according to real estate records, lowered the asking price last month to $1,795,000. In the meantime, she's been renting it for $6,500 a month and staying elsewhere.

The Peterborough, Ont. native has two direct-to-DVD movies out this year -- See You in September with Justin Kirk, which was filmed three years ago; and Transparency with Lou Diamond Phillips.

Always beautiful and in tip-top shape, Warren may not have any new projects that have been announced yet, but this is Hollywood and anything can happen.

YOU WANNA KNOW: Rumours that award-winning Ottawa musician Alanis Morissette is pregnant were searing the Internet a full month before she married rapper Mario Treadway, aka MC Souleye, in June. But a good look at the photos showed no evidence of a "baby bump" on the lithe body of the Jagged Little Pill singer.

Yet ... in new photos of Morissette, 36, taken July 27 as she and the hubby left a Hollywood movie theatre, there definitely seemed to be something -- or someone -- developing under her flowing silk shirt. Her smile was as also as enigmatic as the Mona Lisa's.

If the "bump" gets bigger in the next month or so, we'll know whether Morissette simply had a big meal before attending the movies, or really is expecting.

CARREY ON: It's not clear if comedian Jim Carrey will have a public showing of all the paintings he's been creating at his beach house this summer as he gets over the breakup of long-time love Jenny McCarthy. One painting he posted to his twitter account in May is a surprisingly artistic view of the ocean in hues of fiery red. He has apparently also been making paintings on surf boards.

But would an art show matter? It seems the reflective time he spent painting was just the catharsis our man Jim needed to get back into shape.

After a too-long break from movies, the 48-year-old is showing interest again in his main artistic talent -- comedy.

According to reports, Carrey has agreed to start filming the role of an obnoxious Frenchman trying to get a stolen painting from Paris to London in Pierre Pierre.

He has also tossed in his hat to play the leading role in 20th Century Fox's Mr. Popper's Penguins, based on the beloved 1938 children's book.

Guys
Thanks for all your wonderful comments - it looks like I am back out the zone although I'm sending this from my notebook in bed.
JFYI my problem was down to Cellulitis caused by an insect bite; yes here in the UK!! After serious anti-biotics on Friday I awoke from my semi-conscious state this morning feeling somewhat washed out but alive. The wonders of medecine.

THanks for caring so much it really helped.

Cheers
Lokks
BTW those expecting replies etc please give me a couple of days and business will be back as normal. Finally, again I am truly honoured and flattered by your comments.
