{allcanada} Canuck beauty Estella slims down

LOS ANGELES -- Frugality seems to be the new maxim for one of the sexiest women in the world, Canadian model/actress and swimming champ Estella Warren.

Warren has decided to downsize on a huge mortgage payment and take a small loss on the Beverly Hills-area home she bought four years ago -- at the height of her fame -- for $1.78 million. She had also plunked down tens of thousands of dollars for renovations.

With no news of any fresh modeling contracts -- she once modeled for Ugg Australia, Victoria Secret, Chanel, Cartier, etc. -- or big silver-screen roles (she did Planet of the Apes with Mark Wahlberg in 2001 and co-starred with Jerry O'Connell in Kangaroo Jack in 2003) -- it's a good guess she's realizing it's time to watch the bills.

Warren, 31, had put the 1959-built home on the market a year ago for $1.95 million, but according to real estate records, lowered the asking price last month to $1,795,000. In the meantime, she's been renting it for $6,500 a month and staying elsewhere.

The Peterborough, Ont. native has two direct-to-DVD movies out this year -- See You in September with Justin Kirk, which was filmed three years ago; and Transparency with Lou Diamond Phillips.

Always beautiful and in tip-top shape, Warren may not have any new projects that have been announced yet, but this is Hollywood and anything can happen.

YOU WANNA KNOW: Rumours that award-winning Ottawa musician Alanis Morissette is pregnant were searing the Internet a full month before she married rapper Mario Treadway, aka MC Souleye, in June. But a good look at the photos showed no evidence of a "baby bump" on the lithe body of the Jagged Little Pill singer.

Yet ... in new photos of Morissette, 36, taken July 27 as she and the hubby left a Hollywood movie theatre, there definitely seemed to be something -- or someone -- developing under her flowing silk shirt. Her smile was as also as enigmatic as the Mona Lisa's.

If the "bump" gets bigger in the next month or so, we'll know whether Morissette simply had a big meal before attending the movies, or really is expecting.

CARREY ON: It's not clear if comedian Jim Carrey will have a public showing of all the paintings he's been creating at his beach house this summer as he gets over the breakup of long-time love Jenny McCarthy. One painting he posted to his twitter account in May is a surprisingly artistic view of the ocean in hues of fiery red. He has apparently also been making paintings on surf boards.

But would an art show matter? It seems the reflective time he spent painting was just the catharsis our man Jim needed to get back into shape.

After a too-long break from movies, the 48-year-old is showing interest again in his main artistic talent -- comedy.

According to reports, Carrey has agreed to start filming the role of an obnoxious Frenchman trying to get a stolen painting from Paris to London in Pierre Pierre.

He has also tossed in his hat to play the leading role in 20th Century Fox's Mr. Popper's Penguins, based on the beloved 1938 children's book.
