CHARLOTTETOWN — Matthew Welsh stopped all 32 shots he faced as the Charlottetown Islanders blanked the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-0 on Wednesday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Keith Getson and Thomas Casey gave the Islanders (2-1-0) a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes and Kevin Gursoy made it a three-goal game heading into the third with a power-play marker.

Zachary Beauregard stomped out any chance of a Saint John comeback when he made it 4-0 midway through the third.

Alex D'Orio kicked out 37-of-41 shots for the Sea Dogs (1-1-1).

Charlottetown defenceman Hunter Drew didn't last long after receiving a major and game misconduct for checking to the head 7:23 into the game.

The Islanders went 1 for 5 on the power play while Saint John failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

BAIE-COMEAU, Que. — Ivan Chekhovich had three goals and two assists and Justin Blanchette only had to make 16 saves as the Drakkar downed Shawinigan to start the year with three straight wins.

Nathan Legare, D'Artagnan Joly and Gabriel Forte each had a goal and two helpers for Baie-Comeau (3-0-0), which got a goal and an assist apiece from Samuel L'Italien, Tyler Hylland and Yaroslav Alexeyev.

Vincent Senez struck twice and Jan Drozg also scored for the Cataractes (1-2-0). Lucas Fitzpatrick gave up three goals on eight shots in only 15:40 of action. Antoine Coulombe stopped 26-of-32 shots in relief.
