Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Chris Jones said Wednesday Duron Carter will stay at defensive back until Nick Marshall returns from injury, per 3DownNation.

The Roughriders haven't provided a timeline on Marshall's recovery, but the rookie was placed on the six-game injured list last week with a broken hand.

"He's going to stay there until we get Nick Marshall back," Jones said about Carter Wednesday. "We'll just see how long it takes to get Nick back. Unfortunately Nick's got a broken hand and he's on the six-game."

Carter started in place of Marshall on defence in the team's Week 2 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks. He returned an interception for a touchdown but was also beat by Diontae Spencer for a long touchdown. Jones said he thought Carter played well in just his second start at the position.

"He played pretty good. Everybody sees the one play where he gave up the big ball, but I told him that's the life of a defensive back. You can't always be intercepting passes and running them back for touchdowns. Eventually they're going to make a play too."
