The Montreal Canadiens released nine players from training camp on Monday, including 2014 first round pick Nikita Scherbak.
Scherbak, Daniel Audette, Jacob De La Rose, Jeremy Grégoire, Charles Hudon and Charlie Lindgren were assigned to the St. John's IceCaps of the AHL.
Stefan Matteau and Chris Terry were also sent down but must clear waivers before reporting while Jeremiah Addison was assigned to the OHL's Windsor Spitfires.
That leaves 27 players remaining at training camp, including 15 forwards, nine defencemen and three goaltenders.
The IceCaps will begin their training camp today in Newfoundland before playing three preseason games against the Toronto Marlies this week.
