{allcanada} OHL: Caamano, Firebirds crush Sting

 

FLINT, Mich. — Nicholas Caamano had two goals and three assists and Mathieu Henderson chipped in with four helpers to lead the Flint Firebirds to a 7-4 victory over the Sarnia Sting on Saturday night in Ontario Hockey League action.

Kole Sherwood struck twice with Luke Kirwan, Ryan Moore and Cullen Mercer also finding the back of the net for Flint (3-1-0). Jalen Smereck tacked on three helpers.

Troy Lajeunesse, Filip Helt, Jordan Ernst and Nikita Korostelev supplied the offence for the Sting (3-1-0) with Jordan Kyrou adding three assists.

Connor Hicks made 35 saves for the win in net. Aidan Hughes took the loss after stopping 26-of-31 shots in 40 minutes. Justin Fazio played the third period for Sarnia and kicked out 13-of-15 shots.

The Firebirds went 1 for 4 on the power play while the Sting were scoreless on two attempts.

OTTERS 6 FRONTENACS 1

ERIE, Pa. — Ivan Lodnia had two goals and an assist and Christian Girhiny also struck twice as the Otters downed Kingston.

Taylor Raddysh scored once and added two assists with Kyle Pettit also chipping in for Erie (1-2-0). Jake Lawr made 19 saves.

Ted Nichol found the back of the net in the first, with Jeremy Helvig stopping 41 shots for the Frontenacs (1-3-0).

BULLDOGS 4 ICEDOGS 3

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Matt Luff scored the winner at 19:44 of the third period as Hamilton slipped past the IceDogs.

Benjamin Gleason and Michael Cramarossa had first-period goals for the Bulldogs (4-1-0) with MacKenzie Entwistle tacking on another in the second. Kaden Fulcher turned away 19-of-22 shots for the win.

Ryan Mantha and Liam Ham had power-play goals in the second for Niagara (1-2-0). Ben Jones also scored and Stephen Dhillon made 32 saves.

67'S 6 SPIRIT 3

SAGINAW, Mich. — Artur Tyanulin and Austen Keating both had a goal and two assists and Olivier Lafreniere made 39 saves as Ottawa got past the Spirit.

Noel Hoefenmayer, Ben Fanjoy, Travis Barron and Drake Rymsha rounded out the attack for the 67's (2-2-0).

Brady Gilmour, Kirill Maksimov and C.J. Garcia found the back of the net for Saginaw (0-4-0). Cameron Lamour took the loss after turning away 9-of-13 shots in 37:31. Brendan Bonello started in net but was pulled after stopping 8-of-10 shots in 22:29.

Damien Giroux of the Spirit received a match penalty and game misconduct for slew footing late in the second period.

KNIGHTS 3 COLTS 1

BARRIE, Ont. — Janne Kuokkanen and JJ Piccinich scored power-play goals in the third period as London topped the Colts.

Alex Formenton opened the scoring with a short-handed goal for the Knights (2-1-1), who got 20 saves from Tyler Johnson.

Cordell James had a power-play goal in the second and David Ovsjannikov turned away 35-of-38 shots for Barrie (2-1-1).

STORM 4 ATTACK 2

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Anthony Popovich made 53 saves and Albert Michnac scored the winner as Guelph doubled up the Attack.

Garrett McFadden, Matthew Hotchkiss and Austin Hall, into an empty net, also chipped in for the Storm (3-1-0).

Petrus Palmu and Markus Phillips had power-play goals for Owen Sound (1-3-0), which got 21 stops from Riley Daniels.
