{allcanada} Islanders to hold Al Arbour memorial service Aug. 29

The life of longtime coach Al Arbour will be celebrated at a memorial service held by the New York Islanders on Aug. 29, marking the one-year anniversary of his death. The service will be held at the Islanders' practice facility in East Meadow, N.Y.

Attendees will include Arbour's family, former general manager Bill Torrey and Islanders alumni, 14-time Stanley Cup champion Scotty Bowman, current Islanders coach Jack Capuano and captain John Tavares. Former Islanders play-by-play announcer Jiggs McDonald will serve as master of ceremonies.

Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Fans are asked to RSVP by Aug. 15.

Arbour, who died Aug. 28, 2015 at age 82, coached the Islanders to four consecutive Stanley Cup championships from 1980-83. He is second to Bowman in NHL history in games coached (1,607), and third in wins behind Bowman (1,244) and Joel Quenneville (801).

Arbour was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996.
