The Calgary Flames interviewed Glen Gulutzan for their vacant coaching position, according to the Vancouver Province.
Gulutzan has been an assistant with the Vancouver Canucks for the past three seasons and Canucks general manager Jim Benning confirmed that Gulutzan spoke to the Flames.
"They asked for permission and have talked to [Gulutzan]," Benning said Tuesday. "If he doesn't get the job, we like Glen and he's going to be back with our group."
Gulutzan coached the Dallas Stars from 2011-13 and was 64-57-9, missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs each season.
Flames general manager Brad Treliving told the Calgary Sun on Tuesday the coaching search was progressing and they had talked to several candidates. He reportedly spoke with former Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo and former Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau about the vacancy. Boudreau was hired by the Wild on May 7, replacing coach John Torchetti.
Bob Hartley was fired by the Flames on May 3. Calgary and Anaheim are the only NHL teams with current coaching vacancies. Guy Boucher was hired by the Ottawa Senators on May 8 to replace Dave Cameron.
