{allcanada} Flames' coaching search 'progressing': report

Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving said the search for a coach to replace Bob Hartley is moving along, the Calgary Sun reported Tuesday.

"We've talked about a few guys," Treliving said. "We'll speak with a few more. It's progressing. I've got a pretty good handle on the people that are out there and I feel real comfortable with the profile we've built, in terms of the type of person that we're looking for."

The Flames have been looking for a coach since Hartley was fired May 3. The Flames went 35-40-7 and finished 10 points behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.

Treliving recently returned from Russia, where he was co-general manager for Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Championship. He helped Canada win the gold medal while continuing to work on improving the Flames.

"Flames business didn't stop while I was away," he said. "There's been a lot of phone work. I've lost my voice and it wasn't necessarily from cheering our team on. I've had [the phone] glued to my ear for the past couple of weeks.

"It's no different than being in your office; you're doing the same work. It's just that most of your work is being done in the middle of the night because of the time change."

The Anaheim Ducks are the only other team with a coaching vacancy, after Bruce Boudreau was fired April 29. Boudreau was named coach of the Minnesota Wild on May 7 in place of interim coach John Torchetti.

The Ottawa Senators hired Guy Boucher on May 8 to replace Dave Cameron, who had been fired April 12.
