Eugenie Bouchard has advanced to the second round of the French Open after cruising past Laura Siegemund 6-2, 6-2 on Tuesday.
The Montreal native converted five of her 13 break-point attempts against Siegemund and was limited to 10 unforced errors. Siegemund, ranked 37th, converted her only break-point attempt but had 21 unforced errors and six double faults.
Bouchard, ranked 47th, will next play Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky. The ninth-ranked Bacsinszky won the only previous meeting between the two, 6-2 5-7 6-2 in the Round of 32 at Indian Wells in March.
The 22-year-old Bouchard was eliminated in the first round of the French Open a year ago after making it to the semifinals in 2014.
