Bautista had an appeal hearing on Thursday for the one-game ban he received for his part in the altercation between the Jays and Rangers as well as his post-game comments following the incident.

With Bautista out on Friday, Ezequiel Carrera will bat leadoff while Canadian Michael Saunders will be hitting cleanup. "He's (Saunders) been so good this year," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told reporters on Friday. "He's shown some power, he's hit some of the better pitches, he's doing everything right. Physically, he's feeling healthy which is the key thing and Mikey has shown us a lot."

MLB reduced the suspension Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor received for pushing and punching Bautista in the same altercation from eight to seven games on Thursday.

In all, 14 players and staff were either suspended or fined as a result of the incident that took place on May 15.
