RED WINGS (38-27-11) at CANADIENS (34-36-6)
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS-D, RDS, SNE, NHL.TV
Season series: The Detroit Red Wings have won two of three games against the Montreal Canadiens. Detroit forward Riley Sheahan scored two goals, and defensemen Brendan Smith and Mike Green each had two assists in the Red Wings' 4-3 win at Joe Louis Arena on Thursday. Detroit forward Darren Helm has two goals and one assist. Montreal forward Tomas Plekanec has two goals.
Canadiens team scope: Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban will miss his ninth straight game Tuesday. He is recovering from a neck injury sustained March 10. Subban has practiced with his teammates for nearly a week and was on the ice again Monday, taking a few rotations with his usual defense partner, Andrei Markov. He remained on the ice after practice for extra work with injured forward Daniel Carr, who skated with the Canadiens in a non-contact jersey for the first time since he sustained a knee injury Jan. 25. "It's status quo," Subban said. Carr has missed 27 games; the rookie forward has five goals and three assists in 19 games. "I've been skating for a little over a week now so it was good to get out there with the guys and kind of get back, get some reps in in drills and things like that," Carr said. "So it felt really good and it's just trying to get the timing back now."
Red Wings team scope: Detroit coach Jeff Blashill would not reveal who his starting goalie will be in Montreal following the Red Wings' 3-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday. Jimmy Howard, who made 18 saves against Buffalo, is 4-2-1 since Feb. 18; Petr Mrazek is 5-6-1 over the same stretch. "What I'd say is we're taking it day by day and I'll let everybody know from there," Blashill told the Red Wings website. "But the biggest thing I think is we need great goaltending and I have lots of belief in both guys, and whichever guy's in the net, let's get it done." Detroit, which has six games remaining, has an opportunity Tuesday to move ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. They are tied with 87 points, but Philadelphia has played one fewer game. The Red Wings are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division, one point behind the third-place Boston Bruins, who have six games left. Detroit has made the playoffs 24 straight seasons, the longest active streak of any NHL team.
