Season series: The Dallas Stars have defeated the Winnipeg Jets twice this season. Forward Ales Hemsky had a goal and two assists in a 6-3 win at American Airlines Center on Nov. 12. Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves. Lehtonen also helped Dallas to a 2-1 shootout win at home on Jan. 7. Forward Patrick Sharp scored the deciding goal in the shootout.
Stars team scope: Dallas resumes play three points behind the Chicago Blackhawks for first place in the Central Division with three games in hand after a 3-6-2 record in January. Coach Lindy Ruff has not confirmed a starting goaltender. Goalie Antti Niemi has started the past three games; Lehtonen has not played since Jan. 19. It has not been confirmed whether defenseman Jordie Benn (lower body) is ready to play; he has not played since Jan. 16. Since a four-game losing streak between Jan. 9-19, Dallas has won two of its past three games. The Stars resume play with seven of nine games on the road, with the next game at the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.
Jets team scope: Forwards Adam Lowry (upper body) and Mathieu Perreault (lower body) each missed time leading into the All-Star break. Their status has not been confirmed. Winnipeg begins play nine points behind the Nashville Predators for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference with three teams between Nashville and Winnipeg. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is expected to start for the 20th time in the past 22 games. Rookie Nikolaj Ehlers has four goals and two assists in his past four games. Winnipeg is 1-3-0 in a six-game homestand that finishes Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
