RED WINGS (31-20-11) at STARS (38-19-6)
TV: 7:30 p.m. ET; FS-D, FS-SW, NHL.TV
Season series: The Dallas Stars defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 at Joe Louis Arena on Nov. 8. Forwards Tyler Seguin and Patrick Sharp each had a goal and an assist, and goalie Kari Lehtonen made 21 saves for Dallas. Forward Gustav Nyquist scored for Detroit.
Red Wings team scope: Detroit did not practice Sunday after defeating the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 in a 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game on Saturday. After losing four straight (0-2-2), the Red Wings have won back-to-back games. "I think we have 20 games left," coach Jeff Blashill told the Red Wings website. "We have to compete and find ways to get points. I don't believe necessarily in big, huge steps, I believe in a bunch of small steps. Everything I said [Friday], I think the game, they take steps forward and get back as soon as you can end up being a real good team. There's certainly moments you can look back on as critical moments. But finding a way to get the two points (Saturday) was huge. Will it be a big moment? It will if we build off of it and have a great outing in Dallas and continue to move forward. I think as a team we did some good things (Saturday) and have to continue to do so to get better." Goalie Petr Mrazek, who made 24 saves Saturday, is expected to make his third straight start Monday.
Stars team scope: Forward Ales Hemsky is questionable (illness) after leaving during the first period of a 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday. Dallas has lost five of its past six games (1-4-1), but is one point behind the Chicago Blackhawks for first place in the Central Division with a game in hand. "It's tough when you're right there and lose it like that," defenseman Johnny Oduya told The Dallas Morning News. "Sometimes, you don't get the bounces and you don't get the results right away, but you have to stay with it and keep working. That's the only way we can look at it moving forward. We have to have trust and patience in what we're doing." The Stars have allowed 25 goals in their past five games. Forward Travis Moen (lower body) could return Monday.
