{allcanada} Maple Leafs recall top prospects

Forwards William Nylander and Kasperi Kapanen headline a list of top prospects that were recalled by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.

Nylander and Kapanen will be in the lineup against the Tampa Bay Lightning (7:30 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, SUN, TSN4, NHL.TV) along with forwards Nikita Soshnikov and Zach Hyman. Forward Ben Smith was also recalled from the Marlies and could play.

Nylander, 19, has played 37 games in the American Hockey League with the Toronto Marlies, and had 18 goals and 45 points. He was selected by the Maple Leafs in the first round (No. 8) of the 2014 NHL Draft.

Kapanen, 19, has played 32 games with the Marlies this season and has eight goals and 22 points. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round (No. 22) of the 2014 draft but traded to the Maple Leafs on July 1, 2015 in a multiple-player deal that included Phil Kessel to the Penguins.

Nylander and Kapanen each represented their country at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland. Nylander was injured on his first shift in the opening game for Sweden and unable to finish the tournament. Kapanen played a big part in a gold medal-winning performance for Finland, scoring the game-winner in overtime against Russia in the championship game.

Forward Brooks Laich and defenseman Connor Carrick, acquired Sunday from the Washington Capitals, are also possibilities to play.

Toronto loaned forwards Mark Arcobello, Brendan Leipsic and Josh Leivo to the Marlies.
