Referee Rob Martell officiated his 1,000th and final NHL game Saturday, a 3-2 shootout victory by the Tampa Bay Lightning against the Minnesota Wild at Amalie Arena.
Martell was honored in a pregame ceremony; he received a signed stick from Lightning captain Steven Stamkos and a signed jersey from Wild captain Mikko Koivu.
The 52-year-old native of Winnipeg made his NHL debut when he worked a game between the New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators on April 7, 1996.
