{allcanada} Holland helps Maple Leafs defeat Blues

TORONTO -- Peter Holland scored a tiebreaking power-play goal 3:15 into the third period, and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-1 at Air Canada Centre on Saturday.

The Maple Leafs (15-15-7) are 7-2-2 in their past 11 games, a run that began with a 4-1 win at St. Louis on Dec. 5.

Holland beat Blues goalie Jake Allen with Toronto forward Leo Komarov making it difficult for Allen to get a clean look. The Blues had an opportunity to tie the game a few shifts later, but Troy Brouwer missed an open net after teammate Carl Gunnarsson found him wide open.

Toronto's Nazem Kadri scored with 5:55 remaining, and Michael Grabner scored an empty-net goal with 1:00 left.

St. Louis held a 40-33 edge in shots on goal, but Toronto goalie Jonathan Bernier won for the fifth time in his past seven starts.

Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko scored a power-play goal 8:28 into the second period, when he one-timed a pass from David Backes. It was Tarasenko's 22nd of the season, one behind NHL leader Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars.

Five seconds later, James van Riemsdyk got a loose puck after St. Louis defenseman Alex Pietrangelo bobbled a puck just inside the Blues blue line. Van Riemsdyk's quick wrist shot caught Allen off guard, and he extended his point streak to six games (four goals, four assists).

Blues forward Patrik Berglund played after missing the first 40 games of the season because of offseason shoulder surgery. He played 13:37 on a line with Backes and Magnus Paajarvi.
