COLUMBUS -- Cam Atkinson got his third NHL hat trick to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-2 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Nationwide Arena on Monday.
Atkinson scored the third goal, his 16th of the season, with 25 seconds remaining. He also had a hat trick April 5, 2012, at the Colorado Avalanche and March 27, 2015, at the Chicago Blackhawks.
Brandon Dubinsky and Boone Jenner assisted on each of Atkinson's goals.
Columbus forward Brandon Saad broke a 2-2 tie at 9:06 of the third period and scored into an empty net with 1:12 left. He has 18 goals to lead the Blue Jackets (18-27-5, who ended a three-game losing streak (0-2-1).
Brendan Gallagher and P.K. Subban each had a goal and an assist for Montreal (24-21-4).
Columbus goaltender Joonas Korpisalo made 32 saves; Montreal's Mike Condon made 21.
The second period ended 2-2 after an exchange of soft goals.
Atkinson scored at 2:52 on a backhand from the right faceoff dot that Condon stabbed at with his glove.
Subban, who was a game-time decision because of illness but played his 255th consecutive regular-season game, scored on a slap shot from between the red and blue lines at 8:36. He has four goals.
Montreal went ahead 1-0 at 10:39 of the first period on Gallagher's first goal in eight games. Atkinson tied it 4:01 later with his first of the night.
Columbus was without coach John Tortorella a second straight game while he recovers from two broken ribs sustained in a fall after a collision with forward Rene Bourque during practice Friday. Associate coach Craig Hartsburg was in charge and will be again when the Blue Jackets and Canadiens play Tuesday in Montreal.
Canadiens right wing Daniel Carr left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury.
