Season series: The Washington Capitals and Winnipeg Jets split their two games in 2014-15. Washington won 5-1 at Verizon Center on Feb. 19; Nicklas Backstrom had two goals and an assist. Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavalec had 28 saves in a 3-0 win on March 21 at MTS Centre

Jets team scope: Michael Hutchinson is expected to start his second consecutive game since Pavelec's sustained a knee injury Nov. 21 against the Arizona Coyotes. Maurice stressed the Jets need to get more shots on net; Winnipeg had 20 missed shots and 20 that were blocked in a 4-1 home loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. "That's a number that concerns you," Maurice said Tuesday, according to the Jets website. Tuesday begins a stretch of three games in four nights across three time zones. "We've been through a lot already this [season] in terms of tough losses," forward Drew Stafford said. "The bottom line is we have to move on and try to get ready for a big road trip." The trip continues Friday against the Minnesota Wild.

Capitals team scope: Goaltender Braden Holtby is expected to be in net again after he shut out the Edmonton Oilers 1-0 at home on Monday. Holtby has won six of his past seven starts and has not allowed more than three goals in any game during that span. "He absolutely deserved the shutout. He's been one of our top players all year," Capitals coach Barry Trotz told Monumental Network after the game Monday. "Tonight, he was by far our best player. There wasn't even anyone in the same universe as him." Washington continues a season-high five-game homestand and has won three of its past four games. Defenseman Brooks Orpik (lower body) remains out. A visit from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday closes the homestand before a three-game Canadian road trip starts.
