SUNRISE, Fla. -- The New York Islanders traded defenseman Griffin Reinhart to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday for the 16th and 33rd picks in the 2015 NHL Draft. The Islanders selected center Mathew Barzal from the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League with the No. 16 pick.

The Islanders, who were not scheduled to pick in the first or second rounds before making the trade, then sent the 33rd and 72nd picks to the Tampa Bay Lightning for the 28th choice. New York selected Anthony Beauvillier, a forward from the Shawinigan Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Reinhart, 21, was the Islanders' first-round pick (No. 4) in the 2012 draft. He played eight games and had one assist and six penalty minutes with the Islanders last season. He had 22 points in 59 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League.

The Islanders already have defensemen Johnny Boychuk, Nick Leddy, Travis Hamonic, Calvin de Haan and Brian Strait under contract for next season, and Thomas Hickey will be a restricted free agent. Ryan Pulock and Scott Mayfield, who played with Reinhart at Bridgeport in 2014-15, are among the defensemen expected to compete for roster spots.
