KINGS (39-25-15) at OILERS (23-43-13)

TV: SN1, SNE, SNO, SNP, PRIME

Season series: The Los Angeles Kings have won three of four against the Edmonton Oilers, including an 8-2 victory at Staples Center last Thursday. Ben Scrivens made 37 saves in Edmonton's 3-2 shootout win at Rexall Place on Dec. 30. Kings center Jeff Carter has four goals, and defenseman Drew Doughty and forwards Marian Gaborik, Tanner Pearson and Dustin Brown each has two. Oilers forwards Matt Hendricks and Teddy Purcell each has scored two goals.

Kings team scope: Los Angeles is tied with the Calgary Flames for third place in the Pacific Division following its 2-1 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. The Kings and Flames play in Calgary on Thursday. Each team has three games remaining, but Calgary holds the tiebreaker with more regulation/overtime wins (39-37). "You know what? The League's tough," coach Darryl Sutter said, according to LA Kings Insider. "The conference is tough. Last year, this amount of points was in. Last year, Vancouver and Calgary were behind Los Angeles. It's the way the League is. It's not a bad thing, it's a good thing." The Kings trail the Winnipeg Jets by one point for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference. Goaltender Jonathan Quick, who made 37 saves in Vancouver, could make his 19th straight start. The Kings are 2-8 in the shootout.

Oilers team scope: Center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins likely will miss his second game in a row because of a lower-body injury. Edmonton has lost all three games it has played in April, including 4-0 to the Flames on Saturday, after winning four of five to end March. "We definitely want a different result than what happened last week (against the Kings)," coach Todd Nelson said after practice Monday, according to the Oilers website. "It's no different for them. They're going to come in here hungry. They're going to be scratching and clawing. We've got to be ready to play 60 minutes; otherwise it could be a tough night." Goalie Richard Bachman is expected to start. Bachman, who is 2-2-0 with a 3.04 goals-against average and .908 save percentage in six appearances, rejoined the Oilers on Monday following a death in his family last week. Defenseman Mark Fayne (shoulder), who has missed the past five games, returned to practice and might return to the lineup. "He's really close. He had a good day today," Nelson said of Fayne. Defenseman Nikita Nikitin (undisclosed), who missed the game Saturday, will not play.
