[SurroundSound] Re: Modern Day Surround Sound?!

OK so how is Ivan getting it made, professionally or in-house?

Best to give him the spec don't you think, why assume what he knows.

Perhaps he is an expert, I don't know.

As I said "I'm assuming (perhaps wrongly) that it is necessary to explain in this detail to Ivan."

Why mention the future of Blu-ray I've adopted the format, but I don't personally see it as the de facto standard for the future, you are welcome to your opinion, but how is

That relevant to Ivan today? Qobuz have started selling 5.1 classical audio for download. It seems more likely this will ONE DAY be the standard IMO.

We might prefer tangible media but it looks like the media companies will foist downloads (or streaming which I hate) upon us one day.

But for now I think you are right in stating that DVD-A is the most suitable (and versatile) format.

I haven't seen any commercial DVDA with only HiRes content in AUDIO_TS !

What you describe is the standard for DVDA.

If I was Ivan, I would go for DVD(A) AND BluRay......

DVDA is the most versatile, BluRay can deliver the highest quality.... with the modernest audio formats.

And I think within 10 years or even less, Bluray will be the standard ! 5.1 in 24/192 lossless is only possible on Bluray .....

FWIW I was always surprised that there are hardly any music only Dvd's...... in all those years I found a handful, no more !

(that is : Retail ones ! not the ones I made myself....)

Simple guides to make a DVDA or a music only DVD are on my website.

Perhaps a DVD-Audio disc WOULD be a good idea, as long as it also had DVD-Video compatibility, accompanied by Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks.

An early example of a disc like this is Fleetwood Mac "Rumours".
