[SurroundSound] Re: SACD ripping offer (Australia)

Andrej,

I'm using equipment that is at least 8 years old (some much older!), and I'm quite happy with the way it performs.  See http://youtu.be/xo-sODkjKOk for details - though note that since that video was made, I've upgraded to four Summoner 1093SFRTL speakers (http://www.adelaidespeakers.com/summoner-floorstanders.html) and two dbx 5BX dynamics processors.

To summarise my 'issue' I have four Squeezebox V3s around the house, three of them hooked up to surround receivers via Toslink.  The Squeezeboxes don't know about multi-channel FLAC, but happily 'pass through' DTS-encoded FLAC to be decoded by the receivers.  I'm very happy with the sound I get from my system(s), and do not wish to waste $thousands on buying three Oppo players (or whatever) just so I can play ISOs, multi-channel FLACs, etc, streamed from my PC downstairs.

With my batch files, it's a simple matter of placing the (multiple) ripped SACD ISOs on my HDD, starting a batch file before I go to bed, and while I'm blissfully sleeping (listening to music through my 4th Squeezebox and a pillow speaker, of course :-) the magic happens, and, if all goes well, I come down to my 'office' in the morning to find a bunch of DTS FLACS correctly volume-scaled so they sound the same volume as all my ReplayGain-adjusted stereo tracks!

But I too am a little curious...

For people who do play ISOs 'directly', at what point (which equipment/software) does the gain-scaling occur to equalise all track volume levels (stereo and multi-channel), and where does the shuffle-by-track (from multiple albums) take place?

Daniel
