TORONTO - Toronto FC has hired MLS veteran Robin Fraser as assistant coach.

The team confirmed the hiring in a release Thursday.

The 48-year-old Fraser played 10 seasons in MLS for the Los Angeles Galaxy, Colorado Rapids and Columbus Crew from 1996 to 2005, appearing in 260 regular-season games.

Fraser, who played with Toronto coach Greg Vanney in Los Angeles and coached with him at Chivas USA, was an assistant coach with the New York Red Bulls most recently

The former U.S. international and two-time MLS defender of the year started his coaching career at Real Salt Lake as an assistant from 2007 to 2010, helping the team win the MLS Cup in 2009, and was head coach at Chivas in 2011 and 2012.

Vanney was an assistant to Fraser at Chivas.

"We are very excited to have Robin on board," Vanney said in a statement. "His experience in Major League Soccer and respect in our league will be of great benefit to Toronto FC.

"Robin will be a great asset both on-and-off the field for our club."
