ANAHEIM -- Rookie forward Rickard Rakell had two goals and two assists, and Sami Vatanen scored in the seventh round of the shootout to give the Anaheim Ducks a 5-4 win against the Winnipeg Jets at Honda Center on Sunday.
Vatanen beat Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec with a wrist shot stick side. The Finnish defenseman's goal was appropriate on a night when Anaheim retired Teemu Selanne's No. 8 jersey.
Rakell tied it 4-4 with his second goal, third of the season, with 2:03 remaining in the third period. He deftly collected a pass from behind the net from Patrick Maroon and stuffed the puck in the right side of the net.
Rakell chipped in a loose puck on the power play at 8:33 of the first. It was his first career multigoal game, and his four points tied the Ducks rookie record for points in a game. Rakell also extended the shootout when he beat Pavelec with a backhand in the fourth round.
The Jets (21-14-8) had leads of 3-1 and 4-2, the latter of which came when Andrew Ladd converted a 2-on-1 with Blake Wheeler at 17:42 of the second period, but the Ducks pulled to 4-3 on a power-play goal by Kyle Palmieri at 6:25 of the third.
Anaheim went 2-for-5 on the power play.
The Ducks (27-10-6), who were a part of the nearly two-hour ceremony for Selanne, chased the game from the start, but got a huge boost when they killed a two-minute 5-on-3 power play from the end of the second period into the third. Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf took unsportsmanlike conduct and roughing penalties when he tussled with Dustin Byfuglien after Byfuglien's big hit on Francois Beauchemin.
The Jets took a 3-1 lead in the first period on goals by Mark Scheifele, Zach Bogosian and Evander Kane. Two of the goals came on big rebounds, including Scheifele's at 14:36. Kane got his first goal since he returned from an injury, and Bogosian's goal was his second in two nights.
Former Ducks forward Mathieu Perreault assisted on Scheifele's goal and has 18 points in his past 18 games.
