MAPLE LEAFS (22-24-4) at FLYERS (21-22-7)

TV: CBC, CSN-PH

Season series: Claude Giroux had two goals and two assists and linemate Jakub Voracek had four assists in the Philadelphia Flyers' 7-4 win at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Dec. 20. The Flyers have beaten the Maple Leafs in two straight games, but the Maple Leafs have won two of the past three times they've played in Philadelphia.

Maple Leafs team scope: The Maple Leafs opted not to practice Friday before traveling to Philadelphia. Instead they spent another day trying to rediscover their confidence during a stretch that has seen them lose eight straight (0-7-1) and go 3-15-1 in their past 19 games. In their most recent game they led the Arizona Coyotes 1-0 going into the third period at home Thursday, but Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored shorthanded five seconds into the third when his dump-in from center ice bounced past Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier, and the Coyotes scored twice more in the third for a 3-1 victory. "We've got to be more resilient," interim coach Peter Horachek said after the loss Thursday, according to the (Toronto) Globe and Mail. "We've got to find ways to win now. We understand that you're going to go through these things and you've got to prop them back up. You've got to be resilient. You've got to be mentally tough. You deal with these negative things like having a couple fluky goals go in and you've got to move onto the next day. It's got to be a whole new day. You can't put your best foot forward if you're pouting or feeling sorry for yourself or making excuses. You've just got to go back to work."

Flyers team scope: Nicklas Grossmann practiced Friday and could return to the lineup Saturday. The defenseman has missed the past nine games with an upper-body injury sustained during a game Jan. 8 against the Washington Capitals. "Just taking it a day at a time," Grossmann said, according to CSNPhilly.com. "Every day it's getting better. That's the way we want to. We haven't made any decisions for [Saturday]." Coach Craig Berube wasn't sure if Grossmann would play, saying he would decide after the morning skate Saturday. "It's up in the air yet. I've got to see tomorrow," Berube said. "… He looked good today." Center Scott Laughton also practiced but will not play Saturday because of a concussion. The Flyers will try to win their fourth straight game; three other times they've won three in a row but lost the next game.
