BUFFALO, N.Y. — Sarah Potomak scored a pair of goals and added two assists as Canada advanced to the semifinals of the IIHF U18 Women's Hockey Championship with a 7-1 victory over the Czech Republic on Thursday.
Canada (2-0-1) scored seven unanswered goals to ensure at least a second-place finish in Group A. The top two teams in the group advance directly to the semifinal round.
Elizabeth Giguere had a goal and two assists for Canada, while Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout, Micah Hart, Lindsay Agnew and Kristin ONeill also scored.
Marlene Boissonnault stopped seven of eight shots in the Canadian goal.
Michaela Pejzlova scored for the Czech Republic (0-3-0). Katerina Zechovska and Blanka Skodova combined for 43 stops.
Canada will learn its opponent for Sunday's semifinal after Friday's quarter-final games.
