Season series: The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs will decide the winner of the five-game season series at Air Canada Centre. Toronto evened it with a 2-1 shootout win Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings outshot the Maple Leafs 42-19, but goalie James Reimer made 41 saves.

Red Wings team scope: Detroit lost a second straight game by shootout Friday at Joe Louis Arena, 3-2 to the Florida Panthers. The Red Wings, who've lost five of their past seven games against the Panthers, are 1-5 in the shootout. Goalie Jimmy Howard is 0-5 and has allowed nine goals on 12 attempts. "It's frustrating, it really is," Howard said, according to MLive.com. "We keep having meeting after meeting after meeting about it. We work on it in practice. Just going to have to stick with it." Forward Stephen Weiss left the game after the second period with a shoulder injury and will not play. Goalie Petr Mrazek will start.

Maple Leafs team scope: Toronto is 7-1-1 in its past nine games and on pace to finish with 102 points. But the coaching staff isn't thrilled with the overall play. "We can't accept what's happening but we'll accept the points," coach Randy Carlyle said, according to the Toronto Sun. "But we understand there is a more productive and better way to have long-term success. We have to change some of the things that are happening out there." Carlyle didn't say who will start in goal Saturday, but Reimer and Jonathan Bernier will split the home back-to-back set that ends Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings.
