CALGARY — Sam Edney is the first Canadian to win a World Cup gold medal in men's luge.
The victory came Saturday on his home track as the 30-year-old from Calgary posted a time of 46.146 seconds.
Olympic champion Felix Loch of Germany was second in 46.255 and Chris Mazdzer of the United States was third in 46.263.
The race was shortened to one run because of bad weather and poor track conditions.
Edney's performance came a day after the host country won silver and bronze in women's singles as well as bronze in men's doubles at Canada Olympic Park.
On Friday, Calgary's Alex Gough finished second and Arianne Jones third behind reigning Olympic champion Natalie Geisenberger of Germany. Canada's men's doubles team of Tristan Walker and Justin Snith were third behind a pair of German sleds.
