That would be a good trick.  I would like to see you do it.

You would be able to extract an AIFF or WAV file with the same audio content as the MP3 (but taking up much more space).   If you converted the FLAC to a an MP3, you would be creating a more compressed (more quality loss) mp3, as if you had converted the original MP3 to MP3 again.

You can NOT get the same MP3 file back out.  You can get a lossless file AIFF/WAV with the exact same audio quality as the original MP3.

That is because it is a codec, not a container.
