The Edmonton Journal relays that following Monday's practice, Devan Dubnyk didn't flinch when asked if he still considers himself the No. 1 guy between the pipes for his team.

"Absolutely, I still do," said Dubnyk.

Dubnyk, as has always been the case, remains a team player and noted he is fine with the competition from Ilya Bryzgalov.

"If it (goalie tandem) gets both of us going, it'll be a good situation," Dubnyk said. "As long as we're both playing well and we're winning games, it's OK to go that way."

The medical status of Bryzgalov, who was injured in Sunday's game against the Dallas Stars, is unknown at this writing.

Oilers coach Dallas Eakins offered this after practice: "I like the battle but the end result for the battle, and it's a friendly one, is that somebody takes it (the starting job).

"As soon as I say that, I don't want the other guy to let him take it. But I like battles at positions. You need that right through your lineup … you need it in Oklahoma City, where they're getting ready to challenge guys here, you need guys farther down in our lineup pushing the top guys."
