NEW YORK – Toronto Maple Leafs forward Carter Ashton has been suspended for two games, without pay, for boarding Calgary Flames forward Derek Smith during NHL Game No. 185 in Calgary on Wednesday, October 30, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Ashton will forfeit $8,615.38. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
The incident occurred at 16:56 of the second period. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play.
