PARIS (AP) -- Kevin Anderson beat 14th-seeded Milos Raonic of Canada 7-5, 7-6 (4), 6-3 on Friday to become the first South African to reach the French Open fourth round since 1996.
Wayne Ferreira was the last South African to make it to the fourth round. With another win, Anderson will match Cliff Drysdale's performance from 1967 as the last from his country to reach the quarterfinals.
The 23rd-seeded Anderson will be tested in his next match. He plays Spanish clay-court expert David Ferrer, who is seeded fourth.
Raonic had more aces and winners than his opponent. But he made more unforced errors - 38 to Anderson's 15 - and his serve was broken three times.
