The Ottawa Sun indicates that while Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson isn't certain he'll play again next season, if he does he'd like to play for Team Sweden at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
"If I play next year, that would definitely be one of my goals to be on the Olympic team, no question," said Alfredsson before facing the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night at Scotiabank Place.
If Alfredsson, 40, suits up for Sweden, it would be the fifth time he has played at the Olympics. He won gold in 2006 in Turin, Italy, but the NHL's participation next winter won't have any influence on what he does next season.
"I don't think that will have a factor in deciding whether I play or not," said Alfredsson. "That's going to be up to my physical and mental motivation to do that, but if I do play (getting to the Olympics) will be one of the big goals for sure."
