TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Ricky Romero was expected to need six weeks of recovery time after undergoing arthroscopic left elbow surgery.
The routine procedure was performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum after the regular season ended to clean up the left elbow area, the team said Tuesday in a release. Romero also received PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatments to both knees to enhance the recovery of his quadriceps tendinitis.
The 27-year-old southpaw struggled last season. He finished with a 9-14 record and 5.77 earned-run average.
Romero left his last start of the season on Sept. 30 after only three innings due to a left leg injury.
His off-season throwing program and readiness for spring training were not expected to be affected by the procedures, the team said.
