DUISBURG, Germany -- Olympic nominee Adam van Koeverden of Oakville, Ont., produced a second consecutive medal performance on the World Cup canoe and kayak circuit on Saturday, earning silver in the K-1 1,000 metre race.

In a very fast men's C-1 1,000 metre, Mark Oldershaw of Burlington, Ont., and Ben Russell of Dartmouth, N.S., were fourth and fifth. Oldershaw won the race last weekend to lock up his Olympic nomination.

On Saturday he clocked a personal best time by three seconds at the distance finishing in 3:48.352. Sebastien Brendel of Germany was first in 3:46.677.

Other Canadian finalists were Emilie Fournel of Lachine, Que., seventh in the women's K-1 500, Steve Jorens of Candiac, Que., and Richard Dober Jr., of Trois-Rivieres, Que., eighth in the K-2 1,000 and Lissa Bissonnette of Sherbrooke, Que., Alexa Irvin of Kentville, N.S., Michelle Russell of Fall River, N.S., and Nicole Brown of Waverley, N.S., eighth in the women's K-4 500.

Jorens and Dober Jr., are still in the Olympic hunt and will be encouraged by Saturday's result. Canada has only one K2 quota spot and must choose between sending a 1,000-metre or 200-metre crew.

Competition ends Sunday featuring the 200-metre finals.
